Home is Where the Heart is

What lies beneath?
What lies beneath?

Rowhouse Greetings was named for our home in the heart of Baltimore, a 1880s rowhouse that has all the amenities of the nineteenth century and very few of the present day.  The original floor plan was two rooms downstairs (living room, eat-in kitchen) and two rooms upstairs (both bedrooms). The original bathroom was a backyard privy.  Our kitchen and bathroom are 1930s era additions.  I usually tell people that the house was built before the invention of closets since there isn’t a single closet in the entire house. Our exterior doors are 28″ wide, making furniture and appliance shopping a challenge. The windows are also non-standard so all the blinds had to be custom sized. The house is crazy as anything, but it has a lot of character and we love the neighborhood so we just work around/with every architectural quirk.

We are embarking on the path of home renovations which started this week with moving light switches so that we can replace the exterior doors. So we now have this lovely hole in the living room wall — part archaeological exploration, part sign of what is yet to come.

  1. Nancy, I love how well thought out your cards are. This one is perfect – the house background paper, the heart locket with a key, the colors – all are so carefully coordinated and come together in an interesting and pretty card. And I love your coloring – the shading in the windows looks just like welcoming lights are on inside. Great job!

  2. Wonderful colouring of this image and perfect paper choice too…and what a perfect charm for this house image!

Thanks for joining the Tiddly Inks Charmed challenge..
