Sunshine of My Life

InstantGarden_ReleaseWeekGraphic_July2016Morning everyone! I’m back with a new release from Power Poppy titled Sunshine of My Life. Here’s what Marcella has to say about the latest addition to her digital stamp series:

I’ve long been inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s series of vibrant sunflower paintings done in Arles in the late 1880s. The studies partly became famous not only for their beauty, but for their innovative use of “the yellow spectrum” — as new yellow pigments were being developed at the time, and Vincent was able to create many new colors and shades of yellow with paint. This is my little ode to his lovely creations, of course mine are done in black and white, and YOU get to add the “yellow spectrum”! There are lots of petals to color and joy to bring! I dare you to Google sunflowers and see just how many varieties there are today — deep reds, purples, oranges, peach, and every shade of yellow from palest lemon to intense sunburst! The sentiment is inspired by Stevie Wonder, who is one of the sunshines of MY life.

Sunflowers with Purple LeavesWhen I was preparing to color the image, I took Marcella up on her dare and checked out images of sunflowers on Google. The range of colors is just amazing. But I came across a photo that stopped me in my tracks – sunflowers with bright yellow and orange petals and PURPLE leaves. Once I saw that photo, there was no turning back. Initially, I was afraid that this photo was some sort of Internet hoax, but Marcella assured me that she’s seen the flowers so that purple is the real deal. I had to experiment with different marker combinations until I got just the right shade of purple and I have to admit that I’m pretty pleased with the end result.
