Chickadee in Barberry

It’s the 15th of the month so that means another new digital stamp release from Power Poppy. This release – Chickadee in Barberry – kicks off the holiday season, revealing the first of the upcoming digital and clear stamp sets that will make your winter cards shine.

When I saw this image, I knew that I wanted to overlay it on top of a patterned cardstock to make it stand out and to give the card dimension. However, I’m notoriously bad at fussy cutting an image so I use my Silhouette to trace and detach the image from the background. A small cheat that saved my sanity, but then this versatility is the advantage of using digital stamp sets.

It seems like no matter how much patterned card stock you have on hand, you never seem to have the perfect paper for your card design. I rummaged through what seemed like reams of scrapbook paper in my personal stash to no avail. Luckily, my local scrapbook store – Photo Scraps – carries a wide variety of brands that you don’t see in those big box craft stores (who will remain nameless). When I saw this gold foiled paper by Kaisercraft, I knew had to use it with this card. It provides a neutral background with subtle texture and shine but doesn’t steal the show from Marcella’s beautiful image.

Here are a couple more views of my finished card.
