Hyacinth Bulb in Glass

Hyacinth Bulb in Glass by Power PoppyYo! It’s the 5th of the month so that means another digital release from Power Poppy! And this one is a beauty – Hyacinth Bulb in Glass.

Here are some thoughts from Marcella: Let’s zip back to the 18th century Holland, when Hyacinth bulbs were quite the rarified rage. People could not get enough of the beautiful scents and rich colors, helping to drive the business of professional flower growing hot on the heels of the Tulip. Soon folks were forcing the bulbs into bloom indoors to brighten their windows when it was too chilly for anything to flower. Hyacinth glasses and vases were designed to cradle the bulbs and hold them just above the water, roots were coaxed from the bulbs down into the water, sending the bulb into bloom soon after. In a nostalgic nod to these wonderful windowsill displays, we have Hyacinth Bulb in Glass, so that you can have blooming hyacinth whether or not you have a bulb and a glass!

This digital stamp set includes a sentiment by the visionary Coco Chanel handlettered by a reverent Marcella Hawley 🙂 as well as a no-line coloring version of the image.

And while you’re here – take a look at these new die sets from Creative Basics! For the base and image layers of the card, I used the new Allifair Build-A-Card Die Set. You can use elements of this die set as I did here or a combination of dies to create a beautifully crafted handmade card. For the sentiment, I used one of the dies from the Fancy Circles Die Set. This set consists of 4 nested circles and 2 half circles with a beautiful stitched edging to give your cards a finished look.

I printed the image on X-Press Blending Card by Copics and colored the image with Copic markers. For the base layer, I cut a piece of 12 in x 12 in design paper in half and folded it at the 6 inch mark. I used the largest die in the Allifair Build-A-Card Die Set to die cut the base. I used the second largest die to cut the image layer and adhered it to the base. After printing the sentiment on white cardstock, I used the second largest die in the Fancy Circles Die Set to cut both the sentiment and a coordinating solid to layer underneath. I used foam tape to pop the sentiment up from the card and add some dimension.
