2018 Card Design Superstar – Coloring Virtuoso

Happy Monday! Today I’m posting my entry for the 2018 Card Design Superstar Contest at My Favorite Things. I’m entering this project in the category for Coloring Virtuoso.

Over the past few months, I’ve been incorporating stencils into my card designs. The Cloud Stencil from MFT Stamps is one of my favorites and I’ve used it in other projects. To create the background, I blended Distress Oxide Inks in Peeled Paint and Twisted Citron, adding  a little Antique Linen to help make the transition between the land and sky. I stenciled the clouds with Tumbled Glass, turning the stencil to add variety to the cloud formations. When I got to the top of the card, I lightly blended Faded Jeans over the top clouds to make the sky appear a bit stormy.

I decided to use BB Puddle Jumper as the main image. I’ve colored this one before so I felt confident that I could pull the central image together quickly. For the sentiment, I grabbed a retired stamp set out of my stash – I Love You More by MFT Stamps. I wanted a sentiment that had some impact, but would not cover up the stenciled clouds. I used Brutus Monroe embossing ink and Gilded embossing powder to add a little sunshine to my design. I added one of the ducklings from BB Rain or Shine to balance out the design.

That’s all for now! Hope I’ve inspired you to pick up your markers and color today. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Below are the supplies I’ve used for today’s project. All items were personally purchased except those marked with an asterisk (*) . I never share a product I do not like. Read more.

  1. Love the card! Good luck to you on being NO.1 You have shared so much
in your classes with all of us and here you are sharing your entry in a contest.

  2. Your shading on the boy image is fabulous!! I guess you used some bluish gray or pale purple for the shadow on his face. Love it! Thank you for joining in the Superstar Contest.
