Power Poppy Power and Spark Challenge – Grab a Map!

I don’t know about you, but I can color images without batting an eye, but designing card layouts is my downfall. I stare blankly at the image and shuffle through cardstock hoping that I’ll be struck by inspiration. When I get really desperate, I scroll through Pinterest, but usually I just end up overwhelmed and find that after hours of browsing (and pinning crockpot recipes), I still don’t have a solution to my design dilemma.

So imagine my glee when I found out the Card Maps at Pagemaps.com! And for this month’s Power & Spark Challenge at Power Poppy, we’re asking you to “Grab A Map,” and get in on the fun! Power Poppy has teamed up with Pagemaps.com‘s CardMaps to showcase ten new sketches featuring some of Power Poppy’s fabulous stamp sets. You can find all ten sketches along with design team samples HERE! So grab a map, use it to spark a little card making creativity, and link your creation up HERE at the Power Poppy blog. If you play along, you’ll be in the running to win a $50 Shopping Spree to the Power Poppy Shop!

Journey of a Thousand Steps

Welcome back to Rowhouse Greetings! On this crisp, autumn day, I have another project featuring one of the stamp sheets from Red Castle Stamps. I’m back today with another project using the Leaves No. 4 stamp sheet by Red Castle Stamps. This time, I colored the image with Copic markers and paired the image with a sentiment from Penny Black.

Since the image was larger in scale, I created this card in 5×7 format. As with my previous Red Castle Stamp project, I used the new Tim Holtz Stamping Platform to stamp the image on X-Press It Blending Card with Memento ink. Since the stamps are unmounted, I set up the stamping plate as if I were using a clear stamp and adhered the stamp to the plate with a low-tack double-sided tape.

Don’t forget – these Red Castle stamp sheets are only available at The Queen’s Ink and when they’re gone, they’re gone! You don’t want to miss out on a quality stamping product.

Be Yourself

This is the last of the three cards from the class I taught at The Queen’s Ink. I loved the juxtaposition of this batty girl with the sentiment. Here’s a young lady definitely willing to be herself!

Happy Looks Good on You

I just finished teaching a class at The Queen’s Ink and wanted to show off the cards made for the class. They all feature the quirky and fun images from Paper Artsy paired with a more traditional Penny Black sentiment stamp. This is the first of the three, featuring a smiling, happy monster ready to hug you and probably willing to go home with you!

The background was first colored with a variety of Copic markers in shades of blue and blue green (see below for exact colors). I then dampened a scrap of terry cloth with colorless blender and dabbed the shaded area with the fabric, adding some texture to the background. This is one of my favorite ways to add a background to an image colored with Copics. Students like the technique as well because the colors do not need to be perfectly blended – an added plus when you’re just starting out using Copics.
