Tori the Dragon Birthday Girl

I’m over on the Passionate Paper Creations and Friends blog today with this adorable image from Conie Fong Art called Tori the Dragon Birthday Girl. When I first attempted to color this image, I did a basic blend of blues and blue greens, but the result was so blended that it was too smooth (duh!). So I started again, this time employing some pointillism enhanced by a white Sukura Gelly Roll pen to get both shading and texture.

My style tends to be clean and simple, but I wanted the layout of the card to reflect the quirkiness of both the image and the sentiment stamps. So I skewed the layers a little bit and tucked a stitched flag die cut in the bottom corner. For the inside, I repeated the off-kilter layout and added a couple more stitched flags.

And here is the inside of finished card!

Flowering Branches

The temperature has been swinging wildly this week. On Wednesday, it was nearly 70 degrees and I was able to sit outside without a jacket and eat my lunch on a park bench. By the time I got home from work, the temperature had dropped 20 degrees due to a cold front that blanketed the northeast with snow (but just rain for us, thank you very much!). Tomorrow the temperatures will be back in the 60s so clearly Mother Nature can’t decide which way she wants to go this winter.

But I know that I’m ready for spring flowers so I picked a variety of images from Power Poppy so that I could color Spring even if Mother Nature can’t make up her mind. This image is Flowering Branches, a veritable explosion of tree blossoms. Since I want to focus on the image and coloring, I decided to pare down to the absolute basics for these cards and stick with a single layer of card stock. Since I don’t want the Copic ink to bleed through to the inside of the card, I’m using a 120# white card stock available from Simon Says Stamp! for the card base.

Don’t have time to color? Stop by my Etsy shop and pick one up for yourself!

April Showers

I’ve had this paper by Graphic 45 for awhile and it’s been sitting in my stash waiting for just the right project. So when the House Mouse Monday Challenge (HMFMC192) came along with the theme “April Showers” it seemed like the right time and the right card to put this paper to good use.
