New Class! Create with Copics: Simple Landscapes

In this workshop, I will show you how to add a simple sky and landscape to the Art Is stamp set by Colorado Craft Company that you can easily modify for the stamped images in your stash. You will complete an image that you could use for a card. However, the entire focus of this class will be on Copic coloring rather than card techniques.
PREREQUISITE: Experience coloring and blending Copic markers.
CLASS FEE: $25

Copic Markers

The list below reflects the Copic markers that I will use in class. You can follow along using the same colors OR substitute colors based upon your personal Copic collection. Markers will NOT be supplied either by me or Photo Scraps. You must bring your own markers to participate in class. If you need markers, please contact Photo Scraps in advance of class. If you wait until class time, you may not be able to purchase the markers or other supplies you’ll need to participate in class.

NOTE: Please make sure that your markers — especially the blue and green markers — are filled prior to class. You can have your markers refilled at Photo Scraps if necessary. You will not be able to successfully color the background with partially filled markers, not because you will be using a lot of ink, but because you won’t be able to put down enough ink for successful blending.

Substitutions

  • You can substitute your favorite green combination for YG01/YG03/YG17/YG67 used on the grass and foliage.
  • You can substitute your favorite pink combination for RV55/RV63/RV66 used on the rag.
  • I used two different gray combinations (C0/C1/C3/C5 and W0/W1/W3/W5) for some variety in the rabbits. You can stick with one combination or choose the comparable markers from the neutral or toner grays.

The card design itself is pretty straight-forward although the Copic coloring is a little more complex. I probably should have turned on the camera to show you, but this one just evolved as I experimented with colors. And it’s probably just as well that the camera was off. I tell my students that Copic coloring is not paint by number. Remember when you got your first box of 64 Crayolas? Did you worry about blending groups? Did you look at the names or worry about numbers? No – you just picked a crayon and colored. So feel free to pick the colors you like, adjust the values along the way, and just have fun.

I’ve been loving these floral images by Kris Lauren. And honestly, they’re easy to color as well. You’ll see from the list below that I used a lot of markers, probably more than I usually would for an image this size. I just flick a few different shades on each petal, working from the center of the flower outward. I didn’t worry about blending – in fact, I want those flicks to show to add texture and interest. The result is a loose, water color effect that compliments the informal nature of the images.

Hope you are enjoying the new release! I’ll be back tomorrow with one more new release project!

Happy Day by Colorado Craft Company

HEY FRIENDS! I’ve been erratic creating and posting projects lately and hope to get caught up this week. I’ve had little time for crafting these past weeks. We’ve all had some health issues — “we” being my parents, husband, and me — which has necessitated multiple doctor appointments. Here’s the thing about being a caregiver – you go to EVERYONE’s appointments, even if the calendar shows that you only have one of your own. As a result, I’m spending a lot of time sitting in waiting rooms instead of my craft room. And to top things off, my mother fell in the bathroom early Thursday morning. Luckily, no broken bones — a real concern at the age of 94 — but once again I had to rearrange my schedule so I’m playing catch up now.

In honor of no broken bones, I decided to pull out the Happy Day stamp set by Colorado Craft Company and color the image of the mama rabbit and her babies. I won’t go into great detail on the card creation here since I created a coloring video. As always, I’ve linked the supplies below with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.
