HEY FRIENDS! It’s time for another edition of Nancy and Jill Color Together! As you know, Jill Killeen of Killeen House Studio asked me to participate in a monthly challenge with her where we would color the same image and see how we each interpreted it. This month was my turn to pick the image and I chose Girl with Flower by Lee Holland Art. This is such a sweet image that I couldn’t resist. It’s been awhile since I colored something other than cute animals so I have to admit that this one took me a few tries. Coloring hair and skin is still a challenge for me and I just need to put in the time practicing to make it better. But I was pleased with the coloring of the dress — the pleats in particular — so there’s that!

As you can see, Jill chose a darker color scheme to match her design paper. This is an image that works either way. Check out Jill’s blog post for more information about her card.

Step by Step Instructions

  • Cut card base from Neenah Classic Crest 110# cardstock to 4.25″ x 11″ and score at 5.5″ for a top fold card.
  • Cut a piece of Gravel Gray Cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″
  • Select a sheet from the Black & White Stripes Paper Pad and trim to 1.5″ x 4.25″
  • Cut piece of Lemon Drop Cardstock to 2.5″ x 3.75″
  • Cut a piece of Hammermill cardstock to 3.25″ x 4.5″
  • Stamp Bundle Girl and a Beehive on the white cardstock using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black.
  • Stamp sentiment using Versafine Clare in Nocturne.
  • Color image with Copic markers as shown.
  • Apply foam adhesive tape to the back of image panel for dimension.
  • Assemble layers as shown.

As you can see, Jill and I went in different directions this month. Jill matched her colors to her design paper, which created a beautiful contrast overall. I stuck to lighter colors and added a stenciled background. I added the clouds after I finished the Copic coloring using Distress Ink in Speckled Egg.

I stamped the image on Hammermill cardstock using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black and then colored the image using Copic markers (see list below). I fussy cut the image, added foam squares to the back and set it aside.

For the back ground, I used the Diagonal Stitched Rectangles die set to cut both a plain and decorated rectangle from Hammermill cardstock. On the plain bordered piece, I stamped an image from the Stamp Set #399 Framework Elements stamp set using Archival Ink in Watering Can. Next, I used the Lotza Dots Stencil to inkblend a random design. I intended using Distress Oxide in Twisted Citron, but I hadn’t cleaned off the stencil from the last time I used it so I ended up with random colors that transferred from the stencil. A happy accident!

I created an A2 cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest and assembled the layers as shown.

HEY FRIENDS! I’m back with one last card from the Anita Jeram Summer Garden release by Colorado Craft Company. Today’s card features the Carrot On stamp set as well as some creative stenciling for the background.

Coloring Notes

For the background, I cut a piece of Hammermill cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″ and ink blended the bottom third using Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Sprout. For the remainder, I used the Cloud Stencil and Simon Say Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Marine to create the sky.

I stamped the image from the Carrot On stamp set on Hammermill cardstock using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. I colored the image with Copic markers. I fussy cut the image, but coordinating dies are available.

I adhered the image panel to an A2 cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest and assembled the layers as shown.
