Winter Present by Mo’s Digital Pencil

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! I’m back today with another holiday card featuring a digital stamp from Mo’s Digital Pencil. I’ve long been a fan of Maurie Manning and I have many of her (still to be colored) images in my stash. She’s an award winning children’s book author and illustrator and I’m thrilled that she shares her art as digital stamps on her site – Mo’s Digital Pencil – and as cling stamps by Penny Black.

The image was printed on X-Press It Blending Card [AZ] and colored with Copic markers (see list below). Afterwards, I used the medium die in the Nordic Frames die set [GR] from The Greetery to trim the image layer. I backed it with a piece of craft foam [AZ] for dimension and set it aside.

For the background, I cut a piece of Blue Yonder Prestige Cardstock (MFT) to A2 size. I stenciled the background using the Petite Snow Stencil [NN] from Newton’s Nook and Glitz Glitter Gel in White [GKD] from Gina K. Design. It added interest and texture to the background without distracting from the central image.

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! I’m still frantically getting ready for the family Christmas Eve dinner. The tree is finally decorated. On Saturday, I had the brilliant idea to order my groceries online so I just have to pick them up this morning instead of braving the grocery store check out. One more thing off the list!

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! How are you coming along with your holiday cards? Holiday shopping? Decorating? Or shouldn’t I ask? As for myself – no comment.

Yes, I’m still making holiday cards so I’m back today with another featuring the Holly GoLightly clear stamp set by Power Poppy.

I stamped the image with Amalgam Ink and colored it with Copic markers. I actually colored this image several weeks ago and just go around to making it into a card. Apparently, either I didn’t keep track of the colors or have since lost my notes (either is certainly possible).

For the lacy border, I cut a 1.75″ x 4.25″ strip of white cardstock and used one of the dies in the Lacey Edger 1 set by Pinkfresh Studio to cut the long edges. I recently purchased a Xyron Sticker Maker which I used here to adhere the lacy border die cut. I have a variety of adhesive sheets which I use to adhere intricate die cut, but some of my dies don’t cut cleanly through the layers. So the Xyron really made it easy to adhere the die cut instead of using a liquid glue. Since I’m short on storage space, I really hesitated to buy yet another craft gadget, but I’ve already put this one to use several times so I think it was a worthwhile purchase.

Spiced Orange Digital Stamp Set by Power Poppy

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! I’m still working on holiday cards so I’m back today with another project featuring one of the new digital stamps by Power Poppy. This time I’m featuring the new Spiced Orange Pomander digital stamp set. The image is also available in the Spice It up clear stamp set.

I noticed that this season I seem to be gravitating towards non-traditional holiday colors so this image provided an opportunity to explore other combinations. My husband (who is not a fan of purple) questioned my color choice, but I think that the violet ribbon provides a beautiful contrast to the orange. I added a sentiment from the Holly GoLightly clear stamp set by Power Poppy.

And speaking of that ribbon – I still have trouble recognizing folds when I’m coloring, but Marcella gives lots of hints in her images. In this case, I just worked section by section instead of trying to plot out the darkest areas across the entire ribbon first. Also, when coloring folds, you can’t be afraid of dark colors because you need the contrast between the deepest valleys of the folds and the highlights.

The same goes for the orange. When we buy our markers, everyone loves to buy the pretty markers, but the reality is that you have to have some of the muddier colors in your arsenal to add realism to your coloring. You’ll see below that in addition to some pretty yellows and oranges, I also used a couple blue violet markers, specifically along the bottom of the orange (to help give the illusion of a curve) and along the cloves (to help raise them visually from the surface of the peel). Those BV markers are not the prettiest colors, but your coloring is always going to be flat unless you start layering them in your blend along with your pretty markers.

Newly Remixed Holiday Digital Blitz

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! I’m back for the final day of Power Poppy’s Christmas Remix. Today’s card features the Fully Stocked clear stamp set – and who better to describe it than Marcella herself:

Do you know HOW HARD IT WAS to narrow this down to only three? The stocking struggle is real. Luckily, each of these special stockings was carefully curated, decorated, and trimmed to the nines. Plus they’re fully stocked and each one comes with a coordinating accent image. We have a gardener’s dream with a journal, tools, tags, and trimmings, complete with mistletoe accent stamp. A vintage European-style linen stocking has sleigh bells, greens, gifts, and a pretty pear. Accent this one with the greenery-topped bell. Lastly, give the gift of childhood with the button-and-appliquéd stocking, filled with kid-centric delights. A group of buttons makes a nice background stamp. Three scripty sentiments work with all of the illustrations beautifully.
