Starting Off 2023 With a Bang!

HEY FRIENDS! Have you missed me? It’s been several weeks since I posted. I wanted to take some time off during the holidays so that was intended. The part that was unintended is that I fell and broke my leg on Christmas Day. It’s a really bad pilon break and I’ll be off my feet for awhile.

I was on bed rest for a few weeks, waiting for the swelling to subside so that I could have surgery. That finally happened last Thursday afternoon. I spent the night in the hospital and came home the next afternoon.

I’m slowly recovering, but I’m not back to coloring yet. The pain has subsided pretty much and I’m starting to spend more time out of bed, but being upright still makes me dizzy. But I’m on the other side of surgery so I feel like I’m finally on the road to recovery.

I have some unedited video of coloring projects that I’ll work on in the meantime and when I’m more mobile, I’ll get back into my studio and start coloring again.

Hope the start of your new year has been less dramatic!

Anita Jeram Boo Time by Colorado Craft Company

HEY FRIENDS! I’m a little late posting today – a new washer and dryer is being delivered here today which is exciting news for us. Trying to find an in-stock washer and dryer in the midst of ongoing supply chain issues that would fit in a cramp space was beginning to feel like an exercise in futility. But on Thursday, I managed to track down the last set in the metropolitan area of the model we wanted and it’s being delivered today. So we’ve had to double check all the measurements — even fractions of an inch makes a difference between fitting and not fitting — and make sure everything is ready for delivery.

BUT FIRST, here’s some housekeeping of a different sort!

For the background, I cut a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock (my preferred paper for ink blending) to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and masked off 1″ on each side using strips cut from Masking Magic. Then I masked along the bottom of the exposed area to create a 1″ gap where I ink blended Distress Ink in Black Soot. Next, I removed the bottom mask and realigned it to cover the Black Soot and ink blended the remainder of the center with Distress Ink in Wild Honey, Squeezed Lemonade and Wilted Violet. I created the clouds using the Cloud Stencil from My Favorite Things blended with Black Soot.

Finally, I removed the mask covering the bottom Black Soot blending and stamped the images using Hero Arts Intense Black ink. Then I removed all the masks and started coloring. Since I used Distress Ink (as opposed to Distress Oxide) I can color with my Copics directly over the dye ink. Marker list provided below.

I stamped the “Boo Time” sentiment on a piece of white cardstock using Versafine ink. I cut out the circle using one of the dies in the Hero Arts Infinity Circle Dies set.

When I was assembling the card, I decided to trim 1/8″ off of each side of the panel. From there, I just assembled the layers as shown.

I started with a piece of Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper cut to 4″ x 5.25″ and stamped the bat images as shown using Hero Arts Intense Black ink. I colored the image with Copic markers (see list below). I masked off 3/4″ around all four sides with strips of Masking Magic. I also stamped the bat image on a piece Masking Magic, fussy cut the images, and applied the mask over the colored images. I taped the solid medium moon from the Moon Mask stencil in place.

Next, I inkblended the background with Distress Oxide inks, working from top to bottom: Black Soot, Villainous Potion, Shaded Lilac, and Peacock Feathers. I positioned the Hills and Grass stencil from Newton’s Nook along the bottom and blended with Distress Oxide ink in Black Soot.

Next, I removed all of the masks and ink blended Distress Oxide ink in Antique Linen in the center of the moon. I added the coordinating detail stencil inked with Distress Oxide ink in Tea Dye.

After removing all of the masks, I stamped the cat image from the Whimsy World: Purrfect Halloween Mini in the center of the moon and the sentiment along the bottom using Archival Distress Ink in Black Soot. I glued craft foam to the back of the card, but you could use foam tape to add dimension. I finished the card by adhering the panel to a cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest cardstock.

Project #1

In order to fit all the sweaters and sentiments, I had to go big — 5″ x 7″ to be exact — so this card is larger than my usual A2 sized cards. For the card base, I cut a piece of Neenah Classic Crest to 7″ x 10″ and scored at 5″. Using the 5 x 7 Matting Basics A and the 5 x 7 Matting Basics B die sets by Spellbinders, I cut a piece of Blue Beyond Cardstock by My Favorite Things and a piece of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock as shown.

I stamped the images and sentiments from the Kris Lauren Sweater Weather stamp set as shown using Nuvo Hybrid Ink in Black Shadow and colored the images using the following Copic markers:

  • Snowman Sweater: BG10, B00, B41 (snowman); RV25, RV29 (scarf & hat); RV25, RV29, B26, B29, FB2 (sweater)
  • Polar Bear Sweater: W0, W1, E30 (bear); RV29, R59, YG06, G05, G28 (sweater)
  • Penguin Sweater: C0, C5, C7, C9 (penguin); RV25, RV29, R59 (sweater)

For the image layer, I cut a piece of Hammermill Smooth White Cardstock using the medium die in the Folk Edge Squares die set by Pinkfresh Studio. I stamped one of the images from the Kris Lauren Sweater Weather and colored it with the following Copic markers:

  • Sweater: R14, R24, R46, R59
  • Stripes: YG06, G07, G28
  • Belt: Y38, W5, W7, W9
