The Way of Plants Release by Colorado Craft Company

HEY FRIENDS! It’s time for another release from Colorado Craft Company. This time it’s The Way of Plants collection by Kris Lauren. Today I’m featuring the Ready, Set, Go stamp set with no-line Copic coloring. I don’t usually do no-line coloring, but I couldn’t imagine this image any other way. And I’ll be honest that it took me a few tries (and several different color combinations) before I got the results that I wanted.

As always, I’ve linked supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you. Today and tomorrow, you can take advantage of FREE SHIPPING days at Colorado Craft Company: US shipping free for any amount purchased and International is $10 flat rate for any amount purchased. So now may be the time to stock up on your favorites.

Coloring the Image

To start, I used my Misti to stamp the image on Hammermill cardstock using Distress Ink in Speckled Egg. I left the stamp in place in the Misti so that I could go back later and restamp the flower pot.

The leaves of the succulent were colored using the markers listed below. I made sure that I had enough contrast between the leaves of the succulent so that they didn’t all run together. The main colors for the purple leaves were BV000, BV00, BV01, BV02 and BV04. I added BV20 and BV23 to push the darker areas back to add depth to the image. The blue combination consisted of B12, B14, B16, and B18. In retrospect, I probably wouldn’t use B18 because it was too bright.

Once succulent was colored, I added shading along one side of the flower pot (BV0000, BV000) to add to the roundness of the pot. I also added W0 and W1 to warm up the color of the pottery.

Next, I cut a mask from 4″ wide Mint Low Tack Tape to cover the lower part of the leaves. I put the cardstock back in my Misti, inked the flower pot portion of the stamp with Versafine Clair in Blue Bell and restamped the pot.

Again, in retrospect, I should have completed the background before stamping the pot. Since Versafine is not alcohol marker friendly, I had to be careful not to overlap the ink when coloring the background.

Creating the Background

Finally, I positioned the Micro Bricks stencil from The Crafters Workshop and used my Copic markers to carefully color inside the openings for the bricks. I used my markers rather than ink blending so that I could repeat colors that I had already used.

I trimmed the image using the largest die in the A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX die set. I trimmed a piece of Neenah Desert Storm to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and adhered it to the front of an A2 cardbase made from Neenah Classic Crest. I stamped the sentiment on a scrap of Neenah Desert Storm using Versamark Clair in Nocturne then assembled the layers as shown.

Just a note – although I didn’t use them for this project, coordinating dies are also available for this stamp set.

That’s all for me today! See you again soon!

Fragrant Friends by Penny Black

HEY FRIENDS! As many of you know, I fell on Christmas Day and broke my leg. I’m been restricted to non-weight bearing activity and have two more months to go. Because of the stairs, both inside and outside of the house, I’ve pretty much stayed upstairs where luckily we have a bedroom, my studio and a bathroom. So basic needs are met with the help of my husband who brings food on a regular basis. But I do get a little stir crazy since most of my outing have been medical appointments.

So last week, my husband took me on a day trip to northern Virginia where I had the opportunity to shop to my heart’s content at Goldenhill Papercrafts. He didn’t care how much I spent as long as it made me happy. So I stocked up on stamps and dies that I’ve had my eye on, including several from Penny Black.

Today is my first project from my shopping spree, featuring the Fragrant Friends stamp set by Penny Black. I also have a Copic coloring video for you as well! As always, I’ve linked supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Oddball with a Lock and Key | Stamping Bella

HEY FRIENDS! I’m back with another edition of Nancy and Jill Color Together! If you saw last month’s post, you know that Jill Killeen of Killeen House Studio asked me to participate in a monthly challenge with her where we would color the same image and see how we each interpreted it. This month we picked Oddball with a Lock and Key by Stamping Bella. I’ve had this stamp in my stash F-O-R-E-V-E-R and it was time to color it up! As always, I’ve linked supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Here’s my interpretation of this month’s image!

I love the Oddball series from Stamping Bella and I’ve colored several from this series already, including the Mini Oddball Superhero, the Oddball Nutcracker, and the Oddball White Rabbit. This is one of the first stamps that I colored post-accident so it was fun to have such a whimsical image to work with.

And here’s Jill’s interpretation of this image. Check out her blog post for all of her card details.

Anita Jeram Art Is by Colorado Craft Company

HEY FRIENDS! I’m slowly getting caught up and I’ve been able to spend more time in my studio. Today I actually have a project and video that I created before Christmas that I’ve finally been able to edit and post. It’s a framed piece that I made for my brother as a Christmas gift, featuring the Anita Jeram Art Is stamp set by Colorado Craft Company. My brother paints portraits and landscapes in acrylic and oils, so I thought that he’d appreciate this adorable image by Anita Jeram. As always, I’ve linked supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

  • Copic marker coloring (see list below)
  • Additional supplies listed in the thumbnails below

I cut a piece of Hammermill cardstock to 5×7 inches and lightly traced in pencil the inside opening of the picture mat so that I would know where to stamp the image. The image was stamped using Hero Arts Intense Black Ink and colored with Copic markers. All coloring and assembly are shown in the video below.

A note about the frame — I used the Gunnabo 5×7 picture frame from IKEA. It appears that this frame is no longer carried by IKEA, but the Ribba 5×7 frame appears to be similar and may be a good substitute.

Mermaid & Penguins | 3C

HEY FRIENDS! I’ve got a little coloring nook in my bedroom right now with my markers, gel pens, stamps (including the 3C new release!), and other supplies so that I can color when I want. It’s conveniently positioned near the bed and I can alternate between coloring and resting as needed. Now I can keep myself busy coloring images ready to turn into cards once I’m able to spend more time in the studio. So for today, I have the new Mermaid & Penguins stamp set from the Colorado Craft Company release. I don’t usually color mermaids, but I’ve enjoyed this one. As always, I’ve linked supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Rowhouse Greetings | Mermaid & Penguins by Colorado Craft Company

The Mermaid & Penguins stamp set is a 6×6 inch image, but I only wanted to use a portion of it. as shown here. I stamped the image on a piece of Hammermill cardstock cut to 4.25″ x 5.5″ using Hero Arts Intense Black Ink. I decided in advance that I wanted a lot of texture in the background to represent bubbles. I colored a base layer starting from the bottom using B12, B00, and Y00, allowing the two colors to overlap slightly to create a shade of green. Then I went back and added a second layer working from the top down, using Y00, YG01, B00, B12 and B14 to smooth out the transitions between the colors. After the ink dried, I dampened a piece of terry cloth with colorless blender and lightly dabbed the background, lifting the ink and creating a spotted pattern. Once again, I allowed the ink to dry thoroughly and then colored the rest of the image. I used a white gel pen to enhance the splash effect, but it didn’t show up very well on the yellow background, so I added some gold gel pen for additional texture.

That’s all from me for today! See you again soon!
