Rooting for You | 3C

HEY FRIENDS! It’s the calm before the storm, here quietly awaiting our first major snow storm of the season. I think I’ve been in denial that this storm will be a heavy accumulation. The past “big ones” have pretty much fizzled out, but this one feels different. We canceled tomorrow’s appointments and plan on staying home to see how the weather plays out.

Got a few minutes in the studio this morning and turned on the camera. I did a quick coloring of the Anita Jeram Rooting for You stamp set by Colorado Craft Company. This one is an oldie but goodie and coloring spring image helps to chase away the winter blues.

I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Supply list is short since I haven’t turned this one into a card (yet!). I stamped the image on X-Press It Blending Card using Hero Arts Intense Black ink. The image was colored with Copic markers as shown in the video below.

HEY FRIENDS! We had a quiet New Year’s Day so I spent it in the studio for a little coloring session. As many of you know, I’m immersed in elder care. Mom and Dad are doing OK right now and we’ve been blessed with a wonderful caregiver for them. So my spare time these past weeks were spent getting ready for the holidays. We put up a tree this year and I did all of the gift shopping and wrapping. We managed to fit in a quick getaway this past weekend to St. Michael’s where my husband marched in the Christmas parade. Somehow in the midst of all of this, we completed a major renovation on the front of the house — the rowhouse of Rowhouse Greetings — and redecorated the living room and dining room with new rugs and slipcovers. Still needs fresh paint but that’s for another day. We had twelve at the house for Christmas Eve and took my parents out to dinner on Christmas Day. Holiday cards fell through the cracks this year and none were sent. Better luck next year!

To be honest, I don’t have the mental bandwidth right now to create cards. I’ve decided to skip cardmaking and just color up some images. Today I’m coloring an image from the Bundled stamp set by Penny Black. I turned on the camera and recorded a new Copic coloring video for this image. You’ll see that I’ve been experimenting with underpainting and I’ve gone back to using X-Press It Blending Card. I realized that I picked up some bad habits coloring on Hammermill so I’m working on improving my technique while also introducing new skills into my coloring.

Create Holiday Cards from Your Craft Stash

HEY FRIENDS! Can you relate? It seems like I’m always buying new craft supplies that I bring home, put in my studio, and then promptly forget that I have them. The holiday sales and new releases are tempting. Still, I thought I’d do a series of cards created from items already in my stash.

A friend recently requested that I make five holiday cards that he will give to members of his family. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to go shopping in my studio. So today I’m showing off the card made for his sixteen year old grandson. It features the Gnome Drive Holidays die set by Sizzix.

I listed the materials that I used for today’s project. Shop your stash and see what items you either have already or can substitute. Inevitably, someone will message me to ask where to find a particular product. I’ve had some items so long that they’re retired. But where possible, I’ve linked available supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

I wasn’t sure if my friend would send the cards or insert a gift card or money. So I switched to an A7 format (5″ x 7″) so that he would have enough room to insert a surprise for the recipient. The majority of my dies and stamps are sized for A2 cards so I needed to so some advanced planning. Luckily I have have the A7 Matting Basics die sets from Spellbinders (both A & B) so that I could use them to cut the panels. I was inspired by an unattributed card on the Spellbinders website that I found on Pinterest. However, I made some changes to match my own style.

There are a couple of products where it’s not obvious how they were used. The Classic Fluted Squares die set included two plain square dies that were the perfect size for stamping and matting the sentiment. I don’t have many square die sets. This set was perfect for my purposes even though I didn’t need the more decorative dies in the set.

I used the Postage Edge Shapes dies to create the decorative border on the bottom of the background panel. I used the die that measures 4.26″ x 5.50″ to cut a panel from the teal and red card stocks. I cut a 1.5″ strip off the narrower side and stacked them as shown to create the border.

Also, I didn’t list a red card stock in my supply list. I think I used one from the Concord and 9th Assorted Color Pack. Use what ever you have in your stash.

That’s all for today!

Delivering the Presents | LOTV

HEY FRIENDS! I’m back today with a new card featuring a digital stamp from Lili of the Valley. I don’t know the name of the artist. However, many of his/her images are now available as clear stamps by Penny Black. I’m on a Penny Black kick right now. So, it seems appropriate to add in some of my LOTV stash. This particular image has been retired. You’ll find plenty more by the same artist in the LOTV Digi Shop at Etsy.

I don’t keep much full sized pattern paper on hand anymore since I don’t have room to store it. I have many 6×6 paper pads from My Favorite Things. When I need a piece of pattern paper, I usually pull it from that stash, but I don’t have a lot of holiday paper anymore. When I saw the Season’s Greetings A2 Paper Pack from Waffle Flower, I knew I had to have it. The paper is heavy weight with lots of usable designs. My only complaint is that it is double sided. I have to sacrifice the design on one side when using the other. But it was a nice addition to my stash.

HEY FRIENDS! I’m back today with another new project featuring products by Penny Black. Today, I used The Star stamp set and the Diagonal embossing folder to create a fun holiday card.

This layout is a little different for me because I don’t usually use embossing folders in my card designs. I’m not sure why — I have a bunch of them so maybe this will prompt me to use them more often. Here I used the Diagnonal Embossing Folder and cut the embossed panel on the diagonal as well. It added a fun bit of texture to the front without making the final card feel too bulky or heavy.

I’ve entered this card in the following challenges:
