Laurel Burch Leopard Jungle by Stampendous

I’ve amassed a rather large collection of Laurel Burch stamps from Stampendous so I’ve been slowly working my way through them, either coloring them on my own or using them in classes with my students. The image featured here – Leopard Jungle – was one that I used yesterday in my Copic class at The Queen’s Ink.

I decided that I didn’t want to always teach a traditional coloring class – one where the majority of the card was either colored with Copic markers or technique driven (how to color wood, how to color water, how to add texture, etc.). Since I’ve been exploring mixed media, I decided to include my students on my journey. Luckily, they’ve been enthusiastic about joining me on this path.

I’ve also amassed a stockpile of stencils, Distress Inks pads, and jars of Nuvo Embellishment Mousse and managed to use a little of each in this card! I used Dylusions Mixed Media Cardstock as the base and blended Distress Oxides from bottom to top using Peacock Feathers, Twisted Citron, Spiced Marmalade, Candied Apple. For blending, one of my students recommended the Nuvo Blending Sponges, which I find much easier to use than the round Ranger Mini Blending Tool. After the inks were dry, I used a palette knife to apply Nuvo Embellishment Mousse over the stencil. This added a smooth, shimmery background with just a hint of color.

The image was stamped on Copic X-Press It paper and colored using the markers listed below. I kept the coloring fairly simple since there was already a lot going on visually between the image itself and the stenciled background. Once the coloring was completed, I fussy cut the image and adhered it to the stenciled base using Thin 3-D Foam Squares by Scrapbook Adhesives.

Stay tuned – the Laurel Burch Mermaid is coming up next!

Below are the supplies I’ve used for today’s project. All items were personally purchased except those marked with an asterisk (*) . I never share a product I do not like. Read more.
