The photo at left is the inspiration for Altenew’s April Inspiration Challenge. I was inspired by the colors — particularly since it’s a combination that I don’t usually think of. I used the Beautiful Day stamp set by Altenew and love how the different stamps in this set can be used together to create a multi-colored flower or separately as background elements. To finish, I added a sentiment from Penny Black stamped on a die cut banner by Avery Elle to mimic a bit of the shape and texture in the inspiration photo.

My current obsession is with Altenew stamps so of course I’ve already acquired several of them to play around with. Since my style tends to be clean and simple, a card featuring a single sprigg of Lantana from the Beautiful Lady stamp set seemed like a good place to start.
I stamped the image on watercolor paper with VersaMark and heat embossed it using Stampendous! Embossing Powder in Detail White. The image was watercolored using distress inks and a water brush. After the image was dry, I applied Ranger’s Micro Glaze to seal the distress inks. The sentiment — from Penny Black’s Sprinkles and Smiles stamp set — was stamped on vellum with Stazon ink. Add a few enamel dots from Echo Park’s Jack and Jill Collection and we have a winner!

I recently purchased several Altenew stamps and finally had a chance to play around with them. I’m not particularly skilled at heat embossing — I usually end up with more embossing powder scattered on my workspace than on the card — but the Persian Motifs stamp set seemed perfect for a little heat embossing and a lot of distress inks.
Work in progress — final product later!
