You’re my Jam by My Favorite Things

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! Today I’m sharing a project that features the RAM You’re My Jam stamp set which was part of the new release by My Favorite Things. My friend Susan Itell over at Simple Stamping fell in love with this stamp set and asked if I would do a Zoom session with her to color it. Susan adored the card made by MFT design team member Angelica Conrad, who graciously shared the Copic colors she used on her card. So to prepare for our Zoom session, I went ahead and colored the images myself, using Angelica’s marker choices as the basis for my color scheme and adding in a few more of my own.

Making the Card

I find that the E markers are more difficult to blend. Lighter E colors tend to shatter the blending when used with darker colors so that I end up layering and re-layering to get a smooth blend. This time, I used tip to tip blending and had a much easier time with the blending.

For tip to tip blending, select two markers in your blend (dark/medium or medium/light) and hold the lighter marker in your dominant hand (i.e. the hand you write with). Using the light marker, pick up some of the ink from the tip of the darker marker. When you color, you will have a tone that is a blend of the two markers that will make it easier to transition from dark to light.

When finishing the card, I added a strip sentiment from the Spotlight Sentiments stamp set. It was a little wide for my layout so I trimmed off the top sentiment row from the stamped image. I backed it with a band of solid cardstock as well as a band of striped design paper to finish off the design.

That’s all for me today! Hope you enjoyed this fun project. See you again soon!

Persian Motifs Stamp Set by Altenew

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! Just a quick post today. It’s Sunday morning and I’m trying to regain some order in my house. Next month we’re having built in cabinetry and closets installed in our second bedroom so this house will finally have some storage and THREE new closets. Woo-hoo!

But in the meantime, we need to pare down our belongings, paint the room, break down and move out the existing wardrobes and all the other stuff that you do to prepare for home renovations. Luckily, there will be a craft yard sale at Photo Scraps on Sunday, October 18 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM where yours truly will have a table. I’ll be selling gently loved stamps, dies, storage containers and my spare IKEA Raskog cart. The yard sale will be held out in the parking lot so bring your mask and hand sanitizer. And shop early for the best deals!

So back to the project at hand! When I was looking through my stamps, I came across the Altenew Persian Motif stamp set that has been languishing in my stash. So I pulled out a water brush and some distress inks and got to work. I’ve linked the supplies for today’s project with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Today’s project features:

  • Persian Motifs by Altenew [SC | AN]
  • Good Wishes by Penny Black [SC]
  • Heat embossing and water coloring with Distress Inks

Geometric Mandala by The Hedgehog Hollow

HEY FRIENDS! I’m back today with my second project as a guest designer today over at The Hedgehog Hollow.  My project features the Geometric Mandala stamp from the June 2020 subscription box. When I first saw it, I immediately thought of a color wheel so I pulled out my Copic markers and got to work.

I selected one of the 6×6 design papers included in the subscription box and stamped the image with Copic friendly ink using my MISTI stamping tool. I’m going to be stamping this image twice — once before coloring and a second time after — so a stamping tool is really a necessity here.

Now I’ll admit up front that I used a lot of markers – after all, there are 13 circles to color. But this is also a great image to practice your Copic blending so just pick marker combinations from your collection and have some fun. New to Copic blending? Never fear! I’ll show you in the video below.

When you finish coloring the image, you could just select a sentiment and assemble the card, but I wanted my stamped lines to be bolder. So I placed the image back in my MISTI, stamped the image with Versafine Ink (Nocturne) and immediately covered the wet ink with clear embossing powder. Once I heat set the image, the lines were more prominent and I was happier with the results.

I was in need of a birthday card so I selected one of the sentiments in the Simple Strips – Birthday stamp from Taylored Expressions. I stamped the image with Versafine ink. Once again, I covered the wet ink with clear embossing powder and heat set the sentiment. I used the coordinating Simple Strips Die to create the banner. I adhered the image to the card base and used the Foam Sticky Strips from Taylored Expressions to add to the sentiment.

Hope you enjoyed today’s project! Thanks for stopping by!
