Busy Bees by Honey Bee Stamps

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! Sometimes even when you’re retired, it’s a relief when the weekend rolls around. It’s been a busy week. I spent a couple of afternoons with my parents and I finally turned in the class samples for my May class at Queen’s Ink (Stamping Bella in case you were wondering!). Lunch and a couple of dinners with friends. Makes me sound like more of a social butterfly than I really am! Just a small breather this weekend – I’m at an all day workshop for caregivers today and I teach at Photo Scraps on tomorrow afternoon (space still available!).

Yesterday morning, I pulled out some of my supplies from Honey Bee Stamps and put together a card that ending up containing a little bit of everything – a little stenciling, some washi tape, die cuts, Copic coloring, stamping and all sorts of embellishments. This was another card that evolved along the way.

I created the background by stenciling a strip on the left hand side using the Tim Holtz Honeycomb Layering Stencil and Distress Inks in Fossilized Amber and Wild Honey. While the stencil was still in place, I covered it with a layer of Transparent Gloss Texture Paste and then removed the stencil and set the background aside to dry. I had originally intended that to be the entire background, but it didn’t look like enough so I added a strip of the Zen Floral Washi Tape by Honey Bee Stamps. And then that didn’t look right either so I added two more! Not what I intended when I started, but I liked the end result.

I added a stacked Smile die cut and sentiment from the Smile stamp set, both by Honey Bee Stamps. I selected a few of the bee images from the Busy Bees Stamp set by Honey Bee Stamps and colored them with Copic markers. I covered the wings with Wink of Stella to add a little sparkle. I finished off the card with a few Dewdrops also from Honey Bee Stamps.

My Type by Newton’s Nook

Rowhouse Greetings | My Type by Newton's Nook Designs

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! The sun has been shining here the past few days and I’m cautiously optimistic that spring is on its way. Although rumor has it that the temperatures are going to plunge next week. 🙁

I’ve been spending a lot of time with my parents lately. At their age, it seems like there are doctor appointments every week, not to mention all the trips to the grocery store, bank, drugstore, etc. necessary to keep their household running. My crafting time has been limited and out of necessity, I’ve had to focus on either designing cards for future classes or preparing materials for upcoming classes. Although I’m already behind on preparing for next month’s classes, I decided to take time today to make a card just for the sake of making one. Not one that I plan on teaching or giving to someone for a special occasion. Just something that I could put together quickly to get the creative mojo flowing.

I looked through my stash of recent purchases and realized that I had a bit of a theme going, having recently purchased both the My Type stamp set by Newton’s Nook and the Typewriter Text Background by My Favorite Things. So I decided to just go with it.

I worked through my project as follows:

  • Stamp the typewriter image from the My Type set onto Spectrum Noir Ultra Smooth Cardstock with Amalgam Ink in Jet Black by Gina K. Designs.
  • Add the “Hello” sentiment with Distress Archival Ink in Picked Raspberry by Ranger.
  • Color the image Copic markers. Upon completion, fussy cut the image and set it aside.
  • Die cut a piece of Neenah 80# cardstock using the largest die in the Zig Zag Rectangle Stackables by Lawn Fawn.
  • Place the Typewriter Text Background stamp face up on your media mat and lightly inked a small area with Amalgam Ink in Warm Glow. Place your die cut card stock on the inked stamp and lightly rubbed the area that you want to be stamped.
  • Select and arrange the desired sentiments from the Sending You stamp set from Honey Bee stamps. Stamp with Versamark ink in Onyx Black and immediately cover with Nuvo Clear Fine Detail Embossing Powder. Heat emboss the sentiment.
  • Adhere the typewriter image to the front with foam tape.
  • Adhere the background layer to the card base with foam tape or craft foam to add dimension.
  • Embellish with sequins, enamel dots, Nuvo drops, etc. as desired. Notice my studied attempt to be random!

OK – lots of steps, but it really does come together quickly!

Spring Blossoms by Honey Bee Stamps

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! Just finished up another class at Photo Scraps featuring the Spring Blossoms stamps set by Honey Bee Stamps. This set of cards was a lot of fun to design and put together, adding a touch of spring to an all too cold winter.

As some of you know, I’m a frustrated watercolorist, so I’ve been trying to get a watercolor effect using my Copic markers. I blended my colors from light to dark using the side of the brush nib to sweep the color across the petals. I tried to leave some white on each petal to add a highlight and keep the flowers light and airy.

Hope you enjoy the cards!
