Bad Influence by Honey Bee Stamps

HAPPY MONDAY FRIENDS! Hope your week is getting off to a good start. Just a quick post today showing a project featuring the stamp set Bad Influence by Honey Bee Stamps. I loved the quirky pig and all the fun sentiments. I’ve linked all supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Today’s Project

Rowhouse Greetings | Bad Influence by Honey Bee Stamps

Selecting the Markers

To color the image, I started with BV31, adding an undertone to the areas that were either going to be shadowed or needed some contouring (ears, cheeks, area above the nose, etc.). From there I worked dark to light, starting with E21 to cover the BV31 and extending a little beyond. Next I added E00 and E000, each time extending out the previous color. Once I had a base of color, I adjusted the areas of dark and light as necessary to increase the contrast. Then I selectively added E93 to brighten areas on the face and body. Once the coloring was complete, the used the coordinating Bad Influence Honey Cuts to die cut the image.

I struggled initially to come up with a color combination to use for the pig. Initially, I tried various combinations of pale pink and pale red. Then it dawned on me that I was actually coloring skin — you know, pig skin (duh!) — so I experimented with skin tone colors until I found a combination that I liked.

Background

For the background, I used the Crimped Frame Die from The Greetery to die cut a piece of white cardstock. I used my MISTI stamping tool to stamp sentiments in the Bad Influence stamp set in Versafine Clare ink. I probably could have used the Hero Art’s Intense Black, but grabbing Versafine to stamp sentiments is just a habit. To break up the white background, I ink blended Distress Inks in Twisted Citron and Tumbled Glass to create a little grass and sky. The image die cut was mounted with foam adhesive squares to add dimension.

Just A Note

For the past few weeks, I’ve been experimenting with other hybrid inks to find additional Copic compatible inks for stamping. Today I’m using Hero Art’s Intense Black which designed for use with alcohol markers. So far, I’m loving it – the image is dark, crisp and more importantly, the ink didn’t smear or transfer to my marker nib.

That’s it for today! See you back here soon!

Oh My Whiskers by Honey Bee Stamps

WELCOME BACK! I’m here today with a card destined for my sister-in-law whose birthday is this weekend. My card features the Oh My Whiskers and Purrrfect Sentiments stamp sets, both from Honey Bee Stamps.

To be honest, I was not feeling very crafty when I set out to make this. I spent a couple of hours on Pinterest hoping to get some inspiration, but as usual, I got overwhelmed and ending up pinning crock pot recipes. So if you’re looking for a good recipe for slow cooker Mongolian Beef, I found one!

At any rate, I finally looked through my stash of stamps and found that I couldn’t resist the kittens in the Oh My Whiskers set. Using a Misti, I stamped in the images using the new Amalgam Ink in Obsidian from Gina K. Designs. The stamped images are dark and crisp, making this ink one of my favorites for stamping. After coloring the images, I stamped the sentiment from Purrrfect Sentiments with Versafine and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.

For the inside, I stamped another image from the Oh My Whiskers set using Ranger Archival Ink in Shadow Gray, stamping another sentiment from Purrrfect Sentiments on top with Versafine followed by clear embossing powder.

I’m entering this in the Honey Bee Stamps Buzzworthy Challenge #36 – Anything Goes.

Hope you found some inspiration. Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you again soon!

Fun with Stencils: Class Wrap Up

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! Just finished up another class at Photo Scraps yesterday featuring different techniques and products to use with stencils. Everyone had a good time and hopefully will be inspired to incorporate stencils into their projects.

Since I ran out of paper AND printer ink when I was preparing the card kits, I wasn’t able to give everyone my usual handout listing all of the products. So as promised I am following up today with the product information. Tracy and Lisa asked that I offer another stencil class later in the year. Stay tuned! I’m thinking about ways to incorporate stencils into holiday cards!

And be sure to join me TODAY from noon to 3:00PM at the Photo Scraps Yard Sale. Arrive early for the best deals!
