CLEAN AND SIMPLE GENIUS

This card was super simple to put together. I stamped images from the BB Jingle All the Way and the BB Holiday Penguins on Hammermill cardstock with Hero Arts Intense Black ink. The images were colored with Copic markers (see list below). Although coordinating dies are available for both sets, I only had the dies for Jingle All the Way, so I fussy cut all three images so that they would look consistent.

Next, I cut a piece of white cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″ and stamped one of the sentiments from Jingle All the Way using Versafine ink. I applied foam squares on the back of the colored images and adhered them to the from of the card as shown. I glued craft foam to the back of the panel and adhered it to an A2 cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest cardstock. And with that, I had a clean and simple card!

I started by stamping the image from the snowman & penguin image from the Selfies with Santa stamp set on a piece of Hammermill cardstock using Hero Arts Intense Black ink. I colored the image using Copic markers (see marker list below).

Ready to color? You can check out my coloring video below or watch it HERE on YouTube.

Next, I used the Polaroid Shaker Frame Die-namics twice from white cardstock and glued the two frames together. I stamped one of the sentiments using Versafine ink. I trimmed the image to fit and adhered it to the back of the frame to create a Polaroid type image.

Then I stamped the image from the Snowflakes Background on a piece of Fog Cardstock using Hero Arts Unicorn Ink. I covered the ink with white embossing powder and heat set the image. I trimmed the panel using one of the dies in the Nesting Rectangle Infinity Die Set and adhered it to an A2 cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest cardstock. I cut one of the snowflakes from from the A Blizzard Die Set from white cardstock and adhered it to the corner as shown, adding a silver metallic pearl as an embellishment. I added scraps of cardstock from my stash and assembled the layers as shown.

That’s it for me today! Thanks for stopping by!

Cute Chemists by My Favorite Things

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Monday was a snowy day here in Maryland so I spent it in my studio. I’ve not done much Copic coloring lately and I’m really getting out of practice. So I decided to make the first project of the new year one with a clean and simple design where I can just color and not worry about the card layout. I also decided to use a stamp set that has been in my stash for awhile — BB Cute Chemists by My Favorite Things. It’s time to stop buying stamps and start using the dozens of stamps that I’ve purchased over the past year that remain unused! As always, I’ve linked the supplies below with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Today’s project features:

  • BB Cute Chemists by My Favorite Things
  • Copic coloring (marker list below)
  • Additional supplies linked in thumbnails below.

To start, I stamped the image from the Cute Chemist stamp set with Hero Arts Intense Black ink on the lower left corner of a piece of Hammermill 110# paper cut to 4.25″ x 5.5″. Next, I colored the image with Copic markers (see list below). Then I stamped one of the sentiments from the stamp set on the lower right using Versafine ink in Onyx Black. Finally, I added a few silver metallic pearls from Pinkfresh Studio to mimic bubbles escaping from the beaker and test tube.

I feel a few more clean and simple cards in my future! Honestly, I can color quickly, but agonize for hours about the layout. Maybe it’s time to just keep it simple!

That’s all for today! See you again soon!

New Online Class: Merry & Bright

HEY FRIENDS! I just posted a new online Copic class on my blog. In this class you’ll create three holiday cards featuring stamps by My Favorite Things. New to Copics? Don’t have a lot of markers? Need holiday cards but don’t have a lot of time? Then this is the class for you! CLASS FEE $26

Participation requires the purchase of a pre-made kit from Photo Scraps. Either stop by the store to purchase your kit, or call Tracy at 410-549-5187 to have a kit sent to you. The class URL and password are provided in your kit.

  • Any Level
  • Prerequisite: none
  • Class includes two videos. The first shows you how to color the images and the second shows you how to assemble the cards.

Class Supplies

Below are the supplies that I will be using in this class. For this class, I highly recommend that you use the same markers. In the coloring video, we will be doing a technique called underpainting and your results may be unpredictable if you stray too far from the colors I selected.

COPIC MARKERS: The list below reflects the markers that I will use for in class. I kept the color palette simple so that I could limit the number of markers.

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES: You will also need the following –

  • Card kit purchased from Photo Scraps
  • Clear Wink of Stella by ZIG
  • Strong glue to adhere layers. I suggest Beacon’s 3-in-1 Craft Adhesive.
  • White glue that dries clear. I will be using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.
  • Foam tape or foam squares (such as Gina K. Designs Foam Squares or Scrapbook Adhesives 3-D Squares). I was out of foam squares at the time of filming so I used Foam Sticky Strips from Taylored Expressions.
  • T-Square ruler (optional)

MFT Card Design Superstar Contest – Coloring Virtuoso

GOOD AFTERNOON FRIENDS! Decided to make one more card for the My Favorite Things hosts Card Design Superstar Contest. So this is my entry in the Coloring Virtuoso category featuring the You Sleigh Me stamp set by My Favorite Things. This card was a stretch for me since I don’t usually create scenes freehand. But with some video guidance from the incomparable Sandy Allnock and a little faith, I have a card to submit for this category.

As always, I’ve linked the supplies below with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Today’s project features:

  • You Sleigh Me by My Favorite Things
  • Copic coloring (see marker list below)
  • Additional supplies linked in thumbnails below.

Coloring the Scene

I usually tell people that I can’t drawn a straight line with a ruler and to be honest, my ability to draw stick figures is pretty questionable as well. While planning the card, I knew that I wanted to create a night scene. Although I was pretty confident that I could create a night sky, I was concerned about drawing the landscape elements. So I turned to my creative inspiration – Sandy Allnock – and took a look at her coloring videos for night scenes and creating a frame of trees. And while Sandy’s trees are far more advanced than mine, I think I did pretty good for someone unable to draw basic shapes!

I started by drawing in the horizon line and filling in the night sky with a rich blend of bright and dark blues. Initially, I made the moon larger than necessary because I knew that I could always make it smaller if necessary. Once the sky was dry, I added the layer of trees, making sure that at least one overlapped the moon and that they were arranged in a way to frame the focal image. Next, I added the shadows for the snowy foreground.

Rowhouse Greetings | You Sleigh Me by My Favorite Things (MFT Stamps)

Finally, I colored the focal image using the moon as my light source. Since it’s a night scene, the shadows should probably be darker and deeper, but I wanted the final image to be bright and colorful so I backed off a bit on the darker shading. I added stars and texture to the hat with a white gel pen.

That’s all for me today! I loved seeing all of the entries for this category so make sure you check them out!
