Recipe for Happiness by My Favorite Things

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! I’m back today with TWO cards and TWO videos featuring the Recipe for Happiness stamp set by My Favorite Things. Both cards are available to purchase as kits from Photo Scraps, so if you’re interested – give Tracy a call at 410-549-5187 and she’ll be happy to take your order and mail them out to you. I had enough design paper to make 15 of each so these are going to go fast.

Disclosure: Below are the supplies I’ve used for today’s project. All items were personally purchased except those marked with an asterisk (*) which were provided by a store or design team. I never share a product I do not like. All opinions are my own. Read more.

MFT Superstar Challenge – Clean & Simple Genius

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! I’m back today with a card that I created for entry into the My Favorite Things 2019 Card Design Superstar in the Clean & Simple Genius category. I decided to use the Recipe for Happiness stamp set by My Favorite Things. I love the chef in this stamp set and decided that it was time to feature him on a card!

I started by selecting one of the multi-colored striped papers from the Party Patterns 6×6 Paper Pack from My Favorite Things so that I would have a working color scheme. I added a two toned patterned paper from the Sweet Celebrations 6×6 Paper Pack by My Favorite Things and a solid card stock from Bazzill. I trimmed the paper into blocks to form an simple mosaic measuring roughly 4 in. x 3.5 in. After laying out the background patterned, I decided that it needed one more element, so I cut a small polka dot banner flag from a sheet in the Party Patterns pack.

I colored the image using Copic markers (listed below). I used warm grays for the chef’s coat and hat, but added E30 to brighten the color and adjust it to coordinate with the skin tones. I pulled other colors from the patterned card stock for the pants, scarf and bowl to tie all the colors together. I added a sentiment from the same stamp set on the bottom of the card using Versafine ink.

Hope you found some inspiration. Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you again soon!

My Type by Newton’s Nook

Rowhouse Greetings | My Type by Newton's Nook Designs

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! The sun has been shining here the past few days and I’m cautiously optimistic that spring is on its way. Although rumor has it that the temperatures are going to plunge next week. 🙁

I’ve been spending a lot of time with my parents lately. At their age, it seems like there are doctor appointments every week, not to mention all the trips to the grocery store, bank, drugstore, etc. necessary to keep their household running. My crafting time has been limited and out of necessity, I’ve had to focus on either designing cards for future classes or preparing materials for upcoming classes. Although I’m already behind on preparing for next month’s classes, I decided to take time today to make a card just for the sake of making one. Not one that I plan on teaching or giving to someone for a special occasion. Just something that I could put together quickly to get the creative mojo flowing.

I looked through my stash of recent purchases and realized that I had a bit of a theme going, having recently purchased both the My Type stamp set by Newton’s Nook and the Typewriter Text Background by My Favorite Things. So I decided to just go with it.

I worked through my project as follows:

  • Stamp the typewriter image from the My Type set onto Spectrum Noir Ultra Smooth Cardstock with Amalgam Ink in Jet Black by Gina K. Designs.
  • Add the “Hello” sentiment with Distress Archival Ink in Picked Raspberry by Ranger.
  • Color the image Copic markers. Upon completion, fussy cut the image and set it aside.
  • Die cut a piece of Neenah 80# cardstock using the largest die in the Zig Zag Rectangle Stackables by Lawn Fawn.
  • Place the Typewriter Text Background stamp face up on your media mat and lightly inked a small area with Amalgam Ink in Warm Glow. Place your die cut card stock on the inked stamp and lightly rubbed the area that you want to be stamped.
  • Select and arrange the desired sentiments from the Sending You stamp set from Honey Bee stamps. Stamp with Versamark ink in Onyx Black and immediately cover with Nuvo Clear Fine Detail Embossing Powder. Heat emboss the sentiment.
  • Adhere the typewriter image to the front with foam tape.
  • Adhere the background layer to the card base with foam tape or craft foam to add dimension.
  • Embellish with sequins, enamel dots, Nuvo drops, etc. as desired. Notice my studied attempt to be random!

OK – lots of steps, but it really does come together quickly!
