Art from the Heart by Taylored Expressions

HEY FRIENDS! I’m back today with another project featuring the Art from the Heart stamp by Taylored Expressions. This background stamp coordinates perfectly with the Simple Strips – Craft sentiment stamp so I can create easy and colorful cards for my crafty friends. As always, I’ve linked the supplies below with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Step by Step for Art from the Heart

Just a note — I recently added the Ultra Fine Metal Tip to my bottle of Art Glitter Glue and find it so much easier to apply precise amounts of glue to adhere embellishments.

Here’s another look at the finished card.

Seasonal Sprig (2 Ways!) by Taylored Expressions

HEY FRIENDS! I’m back today with TWO cards using the Seasonal Sprig stamp set by Taylored Expressions. I’ve been thinking about slimline cards ever since I created a few slimline holiday cards for Scrapbook.com a few weeks ago so I thought I’d give it another try. And then to be even more adventurous, I created a similar card in the traditional A2 size. As always, I’ve linked the supplies below with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

FYI – Today’s cards feature Copic coloring, but I colored this image several months ago using Karin Brushmarker Pro markers for a watercolor effect. Check it out if you want to try something different!

CARD 2: Seasonal Spring A2

I should note that the Seasonal Sprig stamp set includes a few simple sentiments that would also work beautifully (see earlier card project). But I wanted to use a larger sentiment, especially with the slimline card and the Joyful Wishes stamp set fit the space perfectly.

Hope you enjoyed today’s project! Until next time —

Let It Snow by Taylored Expressions

MORNING FRIENDS! Like many of you, I’m ramping up my production of holiday cards. I don’t have time to individually hand color every card with Copics so I’ve been thinking of ways to easily mass produce cards. So I rummaged through my collection of stencils and pulled out the Let it Snow Layering Stencil by Taylored Expressions. I’ve linked the supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Today’s project features:

  • Let it Snow Layering Stencil by Taylored Expressions
  • Ink blending, heat embossing and die cuts
  • Additional basic supplies linked in thumbnails below.

For something different, I decided to use kraft paper — in this case, Neenah Desert Storm 100# paper. The Let it Snow Layering stencil comes in three parts so that you can stencil each layer in a different color. The first two layers consist of the large snowflakes. I used Distress Ink in Rustic Wilderness for layer one and Festive Berries for layer two. However, I actually inked the third layer first using Hero Arts pigment ink in Unicorn followed by Brutus Monroe embossing powder in Alabaster. As a result, I could complete all the heat embossing without waiting for the ink blended snowflakes to dry.

For the sentiment, I used the Mirthful die from Penny Black. I wanted to stack layers of the die cuts for dimension so I cut two layers from the Desert Storm cardstock and the top layer from the Slick Glitter Paper that I found at Michaels. This cardstock has the appearance of fine glitter but the surface is smooth. I adhered the layers together with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and then glued the letters to the front of the card. I glued the card front to a card base cut from Neenah Solar White 110# cardstock and called it done!

Seasonal Sprig by Taylored Expressions

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! I’m back today with something a little different. I’m featuring a beautiful stamp by Taylored Expressions called Seasonal Sprig colored with Karin Brushmarkers Pro.

As many of you know, I’m a frustrated watercolorist. I love the look of watercolor – and sometimes even mimic it with my Copics – but beyond that I’m hopeless. I’ve got all the brushes, the best paper, lovely paints, and watched ALL the videos, but somehow it just doesn’t come together for me. Ever hopeful, I decided to give the new Karin Brushmarkers Pro a try. My friend Jill Killeen – who shares my watercolor frustration – had already invested in a full set and sent them to me to try. So after a bit of playing around, I finally got the hang of blending out the ink and controlling the amount of water used.  I’ve linked the supplies for today’s project with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Coloring the Image Seasonal Sprig

I stamped the image on Canson XL watercolor paper using Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black. For the leaves, I applied a small amount of Lime Green at the base of the leaves with the marker, blending it out with a waterbrush. Once the first layer was dry, I applied a second layer of the same color with the marker, once again blending it out with a waterbrush. When the second layer was dry, I used the Olive Green marker to apply a small amount of color to the base of the leaves, carefully blending it with my waterbrush to keep the contrast between the two colors. I did the same thing for the berries, using the markers to randomly apply either Magenta Red or Pale Violet which I blended with a waterbrush. After the first layer was dry, I used the markers to apply a small amount of color along the darker edge of the berries and softened the light with my water brush.

OK – that probably sounded confusing, but once you get into the rhythm of doing it, the coloring moves along smoothly.

In any case, the results satisfied my desire to watercolor so I’ll probably continue using these markers. They’re available in sets and as single markers so give them a try.

That’s it for me! See you soon!
