Copic Coloring Video

If the video is not visible below, click HERE to view it.

For the background, I cut a piece of Simon Says Stamp Cardstock in Fog to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and stamped it with the Anita Jeram Summer Garden background stamp using Versafine Ink in Morning Mist. I quickly covered the ink with Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Powder and heat set the powder. I adhered the panel to an A2 cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest using Beacon’s 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue and set it aside to dry.

For the main panel, I trimmed a piece of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock using the A2 Chunky Scalloped Rectangle Dies and stamped the images from the Veg Out! stamp set using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. I colored the image with Copic markers (see list above).

After I finished coloring the images, I applied Crafty White Foam Tape to the back of the image panel and assembled the layers as shown.

COPICS: R20, W0 W1, W3, W5 (rabbit); YR68, Y35, Y38, YG17, YG23 (carrots); YG17, YG23 (lettuce)

To start, I cut a piece of Simon Says Stamp Cardstock in Orange Peel to 4″ x 5.25 and adhered it to an A2 cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest using Beacon’s 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue. I set it aside to dry.

Next, I trimmed a piece of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock using the Stitches of Love Die Set. I stamped the sentiment from the Veg Out! stamp set repeatedly from top to bottom using Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Sprout. For the bottom line, I used Versafine Clair in Nocturne.

For the image panel, I stamped the image from the Veg Out! stamp set on a piece of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. I colored the image with Copic markers (see list above). Coordinating dies are available for this stamp set, but I didn’t have them so I fussy cut the image and applied foam squares on the back of the image.

Finally, I assembled the layers as shown.

For my final card, I trimmed a piece of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock using the largest Wonky Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-namics. Next, I placed the Sun Ray Stencil in the upper left corner and applied Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Sunbeam and Citrine to create the sun and rays. Next I used the Cloud Stencil and created the remainder of sky, working from top to bottom using Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Marine and Sprout. I inkblended the grass using Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Sprout, and Field. Finally, I stamped one of the images from the Greener Grass stamp set using Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Ink in Field. I set aside the panel to allow all of the blended ink to dry.

For the image panel, I stamped the image from the Veg Out! stamp set on a piece of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. I colored the image with Copic markers. Coordinating dies are available for this stamp set, but I didn’t have them so I fussy cut the image and applied foam squares on the back of the image.

I adhered the background panel to an A2 cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest and assembled the layers as shown.

That’s all for me today! See you again soon!

To start, I cut a piece of Simon Says Stamp Cardstock in Orange Peel to 3.75″ x 5.25″ and adhered it to an A2 cardbase cut from Neenah Classic Crest using Beacon’s 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue. I set it aside to dry.

Next, I trimmed a piece of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock to 3.5″ x 5″ and stamped the image from the Garden Therapy stamp set using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black. I colored the image with Copic markers as shown in the video. I stamped the sentiment using Versafine Clair in Nocturne.

Finally, I assembled the layers as shown.

To start, I created an A2 cardbase from Neenah Classic Crest and set it aside. Next I used the Spiral Circle Die to create three die cuts, one from Hammermill Smooth Cardstock, one from Limelight cardstock (MFT), and one from Lemon Chiffon cardstock (SSS). I lined up the three die cuts, shifting each one slightly so that color from each layer would show through and then glued them together.

I stamped the image from the Garden Therapy stamp set on a piece of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black and colored the image using Copic markers. I didn’t have the coordinating dies, so I fussy cut the image, applied foam squares on the back and adhered it to the front of the spiral die cut. Then I assembled the layers as shown.

Bunnies and Robin (3C) with Olo Markers

HEY FRIENDS! Today I have a familiar image with a bit of a twist. As you can see, I have used one of my favorite images from Colorado Craft Company — Anita Jeram’s Bunnies and Robin — but I set aside my trust Copic markers to check out the new kid to the alcohol marker neighborhood — OLO Markers. I’ve held off purchasing other alcohol markers as they came on the marker because I already had a full set of Copics and saw no reason to invest elsewhere. But I was curious about OLO Markers. Then my friend Jill Killeen raved about them and Jennifer Dove started using them at her Boot Camp so I decided to take the plunge and purchase a set directly from OLO.

Today’s Project

Rowhouse Greetings | Bunnies and Robbins by Colorado Craft Company

Coloring Notes

So first, let’s talk about these markers. OLO Markers is a system of 128 half markers which you can connect together using an OLO Connector Ring. Each half marker contains 2ml of ink and uses OLO’s patented free-flow ink technology to use over 90% of the ink in the marker. You can custom build your marker so that you can have a different color on each end or the same color on each end with different nibs (brush or chisel). When you need a refill, you simply purchase a new ink cartridge, remove the nib and empty cartridge, insert the new cartridge and get back to coloring. OLO explains this much better than I can so be sure that you check out their website for more information. And take a look at Jill’s blog post where she goes through the pros and cons of the markers.

So I purchased 128 brush markers which I combined using the collector ring to create 64 markers where each end is a different color brush marker. If you’re interested in these markers, you can either buy directly from the company or purchase marker collections from Simon Says Stamp which I have linked below in my supply list.

The price point is more affordable overall than Copic markers. So OLO Markers are a good alternative if you’ve wanted to take the leap to alcohol markers, but have been put off by the price of Copics.

The first thing I did after receiving my markers was to purchase Sandy Allnock’s OLO Marker Hex Chart. Sandy’s Hex Charts arrange colors in visual order rather than numerical order so you can easily see blending colors. Sandy suggests that you create your selected hue by looking 2-5 spaces away from the initial color to locate a light and dark. For today’s project, I picked some combinations by relying on the OLO Color System and others by using the Hex Chart as Sandy suggested.

I stamped the image on Hammermill cardstock using Hero Arts Intense Black Ink and colored the image using the OLO Markers listed below. I trimmed the image layer using the Stitches of Love die set and then assembled the card as shown.

That’s all for me today!

Happy Hello | Simon Says Stamp

HEY FRIENDS! I don’t usually subscribe to monthly card kits, but I have been buying the Simon Says Stamp Card Kits for several months now and I’ve been impressed by the quality of the products and the value of the kits. The new March 2023 card kit features the folk-art inspired Happy Hello stamp set perfect for almost any occasion. I looked at the beautiful cards made by other designers, but decided that I wanted to do something a little different. The heart design was so reminiscent of Pennsylvania Dutch patterns that I decided that I wanted to do it in color.

At first, I tried coloring the image with Copic Markers – what made me think I could color fine detail with a brush nib? Eventually, I came to my senses and pulled out my Polychromos Pencils and had some fun!

Today’s Project

Rowhouse Greetings | Happy Hello by Simon Says Stamp

Coloring Notes

I stamped the image on Stonehenge Drawing Paper using Ink on 3’s Fade Out Ink for no line coloring. I colored the image using Faber Castell Polychromos Pencils as follows:

  • Reds: 121 Pale Geranium Lake, 223 Deep Red, 225 Dark Red
  • Blues: 152 Middle Phthalo Blue, 144 Colbalt Blue-Greenish, 151 Helioblue-Reddish
  • Greens: 266 Permanent Green, 167 Permanent Green Olive
  • Yellows: 107 Cadmium Yellow, 108 Dark Cadmium Yellow

When choosing colors, I pretty much just picked colors that I thought would blend together for each combination by looking at the pencils. Not terribly scientific, but it was fun to just grab pencils and color. If you want to be a little more selective, Sandy Allnock’s Hex Chart for Polychromos Pencils is a great tool. I would have used it myself if I was working on a more complicated image.

Rowhouse Greetings | Happy Hello by Simon Says Stamp

After I finished coloring the image, I trimmed the panel to 4″ x 5.25″ and added foam tape to the back. I cut an A2 cardbase from Neenah Classic Crest and an A2 panel of Wild Cherry cardstock from My Favorite Things. Then I assembled the layers as shown.

Hope you enjoyed today’s project! See you again soon!

Kris Lauren Grow Girl | Colorado Craft Company

HEY FRIENDS! I’m back today with another project from the new Kris Lauren release by Colorado Craft Company – this time featuring the Grow Girl stamp set. I’ve had fun coloring the images from this release and this one is no different. The stamp is too large for an A2 card which is why I stamped only a portion of it here, but it would be beautiful on a 5×7 card or as a framed piece.

Today’s Project

Rowhouse Greetings | Kris Lauren Grow Girl by Colorado Craft Company

Coloring Notes

  • Cut a piece of Hammermill cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″ and stamp the image from the Grow Girl set using Hero Arts Intense Black ink. The image is too large for an A2 card, so I used only a portion here.
  • Color image with Copic markers (see marker colors below)
  • Stamp sentiment on white cardstock using Versafine Clair in Nocturne. Trim using the Grow Girl coordinating die.
  • Cut an A2 top folding cardbase from Neenah Classic Crest.
  • Assemble layers as shown

Hope you enjoyed today’s project! See you again soon!
