Power Poppy Sneak Preview – Day 3

Strong and Beautiful by Power Poppy

GOOD MORNING POWER POPPY FANS! I’m back for Day 3 of the Enchanted Garden previews. This time I’m featuring the new Strong and Beautiful clear stamp set. Whether colored to the nines or stamped in a single ink, this illustration makes a gorgeous statement. An unfurling peony bloom is offset with ferns, lenten roses, and bluebells in a combination you won’t find anywhere but Power Poppy. No matter how you rotate or crop this exuberant floral, you’ll come out on top! Five sentiments have clear letters so that you can color them in to coordinate with your palette, and each one carries an empowering or uplifting message. A single lenten rose (Hellebore) and fern frond can be used in conjunction with the main image or on their own. This stamp canvas measures 5″ x 6″.

I decided to pair the single Hellebore with a simple sentiment (because sometimes less is more!). For the background, I applied gel medium through a stencil and when dry, I added gilding flakes in gold, silver and copper. I love this technique, but the gilding flakes can easily become airborne so make you don’t have a fan running while the jar is open. Don’t ask how I know….

GOOD AFTERNOON FRIENDS! I’m back today with a simple card that I put together for the April 2019 Monthly Mix Challenge over at Gina K Designs. Designing this card was a bit of a challenge for me because I don’t have many stamp sets from Gina K Designs. Luckily, the theme this month is ombre ink blending. I have plenty of ink pads so I just played to the strengths of my existing stash.

For my project, I started by ink blending the edges of my card base with dye inks in Sea Glass and Blue Lagoon. Next, I die cut a piece of Neenah 80# cardstock and stenciled the background using the Square Mandala Stencil and the same dye inks. Once the ink was dry, I stamped the image using Versafine ink and then quickly heat set it with embossing powder. I added a few crystal jewels for some bling!

Just Because

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! We had beautiful weather for Easter Sunday – bright and sunny with a light breeze. We spent the day with my parents. I picked up carry out from Outback Steakhouse and then we spent the day putting together puzzles and playing games. Carryout for Easter dinner would have been sacrilegious in my family in the past, but this way, we all got to enjoy the day with no one stuck in the the kitchen preparing a big meal.

As you can see, I’m still in love the bees from Honey Bee Stamps. This simple idea popped into my head, in part inspired by the “think pink” theme for Buzzworthy Challenge still going on until the end of the month. I masked off a vertical stripe on my card and stenciled the cloud pattern with distress inks. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine in and heat set it with clear embossing powder. I added the bees as well as a slightly studied but still mostly random selection of dew drop embellishments.

Honey Bee Stamps Buzzworthy Challenge #27

GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE! I got a late start on posting today’s project. I had to dash off to the dealership because the service light came on in the car. Luckily it was just a warning that it was time for an oil change and some other mileage related maintenance. I squeezed in a little shopping and a lunch out before heading back home and finishing up my card.

Today’s card is my entry for Honey Bee Stamps Buzzworthy Challenge #27. In case you couldn’t guess, the theme is pink! At first, I was tempted to throw everything pink in my stash at this card – inks, embossing powder, cardstock, embellishments, Copics, embellishment mousse – but decided to dial back my Barbie pink enthusiasm and just make a few choice selections!

I had some soft pink cardstock in my stash so I used it as a neutral background and built from there. I knew that I would use the Spring Blossoms stamp set so I let the flowers take front and center and made everything else (i.e. stencil, sentiments and embellishments) complement the flowers rather than compete with them.

GOOD AFTERNOON FRIENDS! As you know, I slipped off to the Allentown Rubber Stamp & Paper Arts Festival on Friday. Had a great time there. Spent some time with Tracy Beck, owner of Photo Scraps, and saw a few of my students there (hey Kathy & Diane!). Came home with some new dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs and new stamps from Penny Black and Altenew. I splurged and bought a set of the 32 pan Altenew Watercolors so that I can give watercoloring another try. I’m spending today trying to get everything labeled, organized, and put away so that I can find the top of my desk and start coloring again.

I’m leaving you today with a card that I actually created last year for a class at The Queen’s Ink, but for some reason never posted after class. This is the card that got me started on making my own backgrounds and playing with mixed media. Still clean and simple, but includes stenciling with Distress Inks, stamping, heat embossing, Copic coloring, fussy cutting (this was in my pre-Scan N Cut days), and die cuts for the background layers.
