Happy Day by Colorado Craft Company

HEY FRIENDS! I’ve been erratic creating and posting projects lately and hope to get caught up this week. I’ve had little time for crafting these past weeks. We’ve all had some health issues — “we” being my parents, husband, and me — which has necessitated multiple doctor appointments. Here’s the thing about being a caregiver – you go to EVERYONE’s appointments, even if the calendar shows that you only have one of your own. As a result, I’m spending a lot of time sitting in waiting rooms instead of my craft room. And to top things off, my mother fell in the bathroom early Thursday morning. Luckily, no broken bones — a real concern at the age of 94 — but once again I had to rearrange my schedule so I’m playing catch up now.

In honor of no broken bones, I decided to pull out the Happy Day stamp set by Colorado Craft Company and color the image of the mama rabbit and her babies. I won’t go into great detail on the card creation here since I created a coloring video. As always, I’ve linked the supplies below with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Better Together by Colorado Craft Company

HEY FRIENDS! More clean and simple projects as I work through my stash. Today project features another Anita Jeram stamp from Colorado Craft Company – Better Together. I love these images. They’re easy to color and can stand alone as the central image without further embellishment. As always, I’ve linked the supplies below with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

So this card is pretty straightforward. I did the usual – stamp the image on a Copic compatible paper using Amalgam Ink in Obsidian by Gina K. Designs. The image was colored with Copic markers (see list below). Once the coloring was finished, I ink blended the sky and grass using Catherine Pooler Designs inks in It’s a Boy and Lime Rickey using a domed foam blender. I liked the effect, especially for the sky since it gave the impression of clouds. After the ink dried, I stamped a sentiment from the Wishing You Happiness stamp set using Versafine ink in Onyx Black.

That’s it for me today! Talk to you again soon!

MFT Card Design Superstar Contest – Coloring Virtuoso

GOOD AFTERNOON FRIENDS! Decided to make one more card for the My Favorite Things hosts Card Design Superstar Contest. So this is my entry in the Coloring Virtuoso category featuring the You Sleigh Me stamp set by My Favorite Things. This card was a stretch for me since I don’t usually create scenes freehand. But with some video guidance from the incomparable Sandy Allnock and a little faith, I have a card to submit for this category.

As always, I’ve linked the supplies below with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

Coloring the Scene

I usually tell people that I can’t drawn a straight line with a ruler and to be honest, my ability to draw stick figures is pretty questionable as well. While planning the card, I knew that I wanted to create a night scene. Although I was pretty confident that I could create a night sky, I was concerned about drawing the landscape elements. So I turned to my creative inspiration – Sandy Allnock – and took a look at her coloring videos for night scenes and creating a frame of trees. And while Sandy’s trees are far more advanced than mine, I think I did pretty good for someone unable to draw basic shapes!

I started by drawing in the horizon line and filling in the night sky with a rich blend of bright and dark blues. Initially, I made the moon larger than necessary because I knew that I could always make it smaller if necessary. Once the sky was dry, I added the layer of trees, making sure that at least one overlapped the moon and that they were arranged in a way to frame the focal image. Next, I added the shadows for the snowy foreground.

Finally, I colored the focal image using the moon as my light source. Since it’s a night scene, the shadows should probably be darker and deeper, but I wanted the final image to be bright and colorful so I backed off a bit on the darker shading. I added stars and texture to the hat with a white gel pen.

That’s all for me today! I loved seeing all of the entries for this category so make sure you check them out!
