Bird Crazy by Tim Holtz, Art du Jour, and April Online Class Registration now open!

This past Tuesday was Art du Jour at The Queen’s Ink and we sold out of cards within a few hours! I had to scramble to make a few extra kits so that everyone who wanted a card could make one. This is only my third month participating in Art du Jour and I never know what to expect, but it was a delight seeing so many come out to join in on the fun despite the threat of bad weather.

I had two cards available and I am listing the supplies below. If you didn’t get a chance to come out, you can still make these cards on your own. Stamps, paper and other supplies are available at The Queen’s Ink (and remember – Patti can order for you if something you want is not in stock).

The next Art du Jour is on Tuesday, April 10th. You can drop by between 10:30 and 4:30 and craft to your heart’s content! At $3.00 per project, you can quickly build up a stash of cards, tags, etc. for any occasion.

Don’t forget – my next Copic card class at The Queen’s Ink is on Tuesday, April 3rd. Online registration is now available! You need to bring your own markers to class, so be sure you check out the class description so you will have the necessary supplies.

Soothing Sympathy by Power Poppy

Sympathy cards are always tough to make and not exactly a card that one keeps on hand. So here are a few ideas for cards from a class that I taught several months ago at Photo Scraps. This set of cards features the Soothing Sympathy clear stamp set from Power Poppy. The sentiments lend themselves to sympathy cards, but the images can certainly be used for other types of cards.

BRING TO CLASS

COPIC MARKERS: The list below reflects the Copic markers that I will use in class. You can follow along using the same colors OR substitute colors based upon your personal Copic collection. You will need a blendable selection of greens for leaves, pink/reds for flowers, yellow/golds for the butterfly. Please bring all your markers to class (markers will not be provided in class) and make sure your Copics are marked with Washi tape or some other means of identification. Markers are available for purchase at Photo Scraps prior to class.

It’s the 15th of the month so that means a new release from Power Poppy. In honor of National Rose month, Marcella has incorporated a single rose bloom unfurled amongst a swirl of chamomile and rosehips. Stop by the Power Poppy blog to see what Marcella has to say about this image.

I don’t really enjoy fussy cutting an image, so where possible I use my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine . For this card I used the Silhouette Design Studio software to trace and detach the white background from the digital image of single rose. Using the software, I drew a circle so that I have a shape to aid in the placement of the roses. I made multiple copies of the detached rose image, rotating and overlapping them as necessary to get the desired shape. I wanted to add the sentiment to the circle, but the sentiment as provided in the stamp set was too long so I cropped it and turned it into two shorter lines instead of one long line. Once the image was printed and colored, I used my Silhouette to cut out the image.

I don’t use embossing folders very often – actually I usually forget that I have them! — but after playing around with a lot of different patterned cardstock, I decided that the texture of an embossing folder would add some interest without distracting from the central image of the rose.

UPDATE 6/16/2016: Now that it’s been announced on the Power Poppy blog, I can reveal that I’ve joined the Power Poppy team this month as one of the Instant Gardeners.
