Sneak Peak — Wreath Kiss

This is on my work table this evening. Have no idea yet where I going with the actual card design, but pretty pleased with the image. Since there are so many holly leaves, I used multiple green combinations to add variety to the wreath. For the bird, I used color washes of C1, BV20, and RV10 to create shading and highlights.

Knitted Together by Friendship

It’s a Stampendous! Celebration over at Passionate Paper Creations and Friends this weekend. So here’s my entry for the coloring contest, featuring the House Mouse stamp Knit Gift and a sentiment from Life Words, both by Stampendous!

I’ve colored this image before and love the way that the shading creates the ombre effect in the yarn. I decided this time to color it in shades of blue (B91, B93, B95, B97) and use shades of blue green (BG10, BG11) to make the highlights pop. For the background, I used shades of warm gray (W00, W0, W01), softly blended with the colorless blender and then texturized by dabbing with a piece of terry cloth dampened with colorless blender.  For more information, see the third method in Jennifer Dove’s tutorial on coloring backgrounds.

Star Spangled Birthday

Around here, June is a month full of celebrations — several birthdays, an anniversary, and Father’s Day — so I’ve been busy making cards. A couple of weeks ago, I posted a sneak peak of the image for my husband’s birthday card.  With his birthday rapidly approaching, it’s time to put a card together for him.

To some, this image would probably make more sense for a July birthday. However, my husband is an NPS park ranger and he spends his days teaching the public about the history of the American flag. So this seemed like an appropriate birthday image for him despite the strong July 4th connotation.
