Fall Friends & Winter Mishaps

Squished!

Just finished up another class at Photo Scraps. This was actually a make up class for me. I was supposed to teach this one a couple of weeks ago, but the combination of an unexpectedly strong snow/sleet storm and a flat tire while on my way to the class forced a postponement. Although I had a spare  (and plenty of help to change the tire), I didn’t realize that my car has wheel locks and I didn’t have a key.

So I had to call a tow truck – and 6.5 hours later it finally arrived. It was a long day to say the least! But the next day I was back on the road thanks to the service guys at the dealership.

Finally!

So with no further mishaps, we finished up this class for the month. This one was particularly fun because we used the same stencil three different ways. Hopefully this will inspire my students to incorporate stencils into their projects and look towards different ways of using them.

Below are the supplies I’ve used for today’s project. All items were personally purchased except those marked with an asterisk (*) . I never share a product I do not like. All opinions are my own. Read more.

New Digital Image! Mittens and Merriment by Power Poppy

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! Yesterday, Power Poppy released TEN new digital stamps for images that were previously available only in clear format. I’ve been on a coloring frenzy the past few days, making up for lost time when I had to limit Copic time due to tendinitis in my elbow.

I’m back today with a familiar image. I recently taught a class at the Queen’s Ink featuring an image from the Bough Wow Wow stamp set which featured non-traditional holiday colors. So when Marcella released the same image as a digital stamp (this time as Mittens and Merriment), I decided to make another card, this time using more traditional Christmas colors.

I rummaged through my stash of holiday themed paper and found that I still had a sheet of Vintage Christmas Three by Authentique which mimicked the snowflake pattern on the mitten. By using the digital version, I was able to scale the image as necessary so that I could also incorporate one of my lesser used dies for something different.

Just So Happy for You featuring Altenew

I’m back today with my latest project for the Altenew Educator Certification Program to complete the Impressive Heat Embossing Class.

I usually make a big mess when I add embossing powder to my cards. I often forget to use an anti-static tool before stamping the embossing ink so I usually end up with stray bits of embossing powder all over my image. I’ve been experimenting more and more with using clear embossing powder over colored ink to get the crisp and clean results that I prefer. The added benefit is that it extends the use of my growing collection of inks.

Rowhouse Greetings | Persian Motifs by Altenew

For this card, I used a scallop die to cut a piece of 80# Neenah card stock. I placed the shaped card stock in my Misti and arranged several stamps from the Persian Motifs stamp set along the edge. I stamped the image several times using Delicata Ink in Golden Glitz, covered the stamped image with clear embossing powder, and heat set the powder. Delicata is one of my favorite inks and the result is a crisp outline when combined with heat embossing. Any stray bits of embossing powder disappear on the white background so I can look like an embossing pro instead of the usual klutz that I am with colored embossing powder.

Rowhouse Greetings | Persian Motifs by Altenew

I cut the sentiment three times from 80# Neenah card stock, stacking and gluing two of the pieces together. For the third, I blended the die cut with Altenew Crisp Die Ink. Then I stamped the sentiment with my embossing ink pad and covered it with clear embossing powder. After heat setting the sentiment, I glued it to the previous stack, offsetting it slightly to add dimension. I stamped the remaining sentiments in black ink and glued the die cut sentiment in place. It still felt like something was missing so I added a few colored dew drops to complete my card.

So that’s all from me for now. What’s on your craft table today?

2018 Card Design Superstar – Clean and Simple

Good afternoon! I had a design idea bouncing around in my head this morning so I decided to create a second card for the 2018 Card Design Superstar Contest at My Favorite Things. I’m posting this project in the category for Clean and Simple Genius.

Rowhouse Greetings | Gnome Me by My Favorite Things (MFT Stamps)

For this project, I chose one of the images from the Gnome Me stamp set which I paired with a retired MFT die and a sentiment from MFT’s Aim for the Clouds stamps set. The second die used for the yellow strip is one that I received as a free gift from MFT for placing an order last month. I added a few dew drops from Honey Bee Stamps – this is my new favorite embellishment!

This will be my last post of the day (promise!). There’s a basket of laundry calling my name and I have to get ready for my class tomorrow at Queen’s Ink so time to put crafting aside for now.
