This will be my last month at Art du Jour for the rest of the year. I’ll be away most of October and Queen’s Ink has special workshops planned for November and December in place of the usual Art du Jour format. So here are my last two Art du Jour cards for this year, featuring images from Stampendous and Avery Elle.

Hope to see you there!

Graceful Still Life

Rowhouse Greetings | Graceful Still LIfe by Power PoppyTime for another digital release from Power Poppy, this time a sweet still life of dogwood and roses called (what else!) Graceful Still Life.  And who better to describe it than Marcella herself:

To me, the most relaxing scenes are composed of elements that feel familiar, with touches of nature, style, and beauty. My home is composed of little still lifes – arranged on shelves, tabletops, windowsills, and basically anything that is not moving. This springtime still life is similar to what I’d set up in my living room: a Susie Cooper teapot filled with fresh-cut roses and trimmed branches of flowering dogwood, piled on top of a stack of decorative books (the books have to have cool-looking spines with great colors or nice typography, or they will not make the cut). Completing the scene, a straw hat with a millinery rose and berries, to suggest we’ve just come inside from gardening. But who knows if we have? Maybe we’ve just been sitting here in yoga pants, coloring up this still life.

This set is really versatile – the digital download includes the still life and sentiment as show as well as a single large image of the Dogwood branches, for a variety of card making and coloring uses from a single set.

Now it’s time for the rest of the Instant Gardener team to show off their creations! And be sure to stop by the Power Poppy blog for an added dose of inspiration.

Blossoming Feline

I’ve been eyeing the new Laurel Bush stamps by Stampendous and I finally broke down today and bought some. The style and the colors are out of the norm for me, but that’s exactly why I wanted to color them. Although I have to admit that having a household of cats was certainly a determining influence as well!

Laurel Burch’s style is very distinctive as is her color palette. Stampendous has developed a Copic Marker Coloring Guide for this line of stamps which I used for guidance, but substituted when I needed an expanded selection to create some of the blending. Since it was my first, I followed an illustration of the original to practice her style, but it is truely an image where anything goes!
