Holiday Gift Tags

HEY FRIENDS! Today I’ve switched gears to make some holiday tags for gift packages. I recently purchased a new to me Penny Black stamp set called Jolly Follies — I have a soft spot for all of the Penny Black critter images — so I paired it with a few Avery Elle stamps from my stash as well as a large layer tag die also from Avery Elle. As always, I’ve linked supplies with compensated affiliate links used where possible at no cost to you.

COPICS: R17, R27, R39 (ribbon); R27 (berries); YG03, YG17, YG67 (holly leaves); Y21, Y26, Y28, E23 (bells); B000, B00, B01 (dress); R20, E30, E31, E33, E35, E37 (mouse)

For each tag, I used the largest tag die in the Easy Layer Tag Die set to cut the background from Hammermill smooth cardstock. The images from the Jolly Follies stamp set were stamped using Hero Arts Intense Black Ink. I used sentiments from the Merry Circle Tags stamp set which I stamped using Versafine Claire in Nocturne. I used the “To” and “From” stamps from the Jingle stamp set. I added clear Wink of Stella to embellish the snow on the lamp in Tag 1 and the bells in Tag 3.

Since the Copic ink bleeds through the paper, I cut another tag from Neenah cardstock to glue to the back. For the third tag, I also stamped all the sentiments on the back since they were not used on the front.

That’s all for today!

Making Christmas Cards (Yes, It’s That Time Again!)

I decided two things about making Christmas cards this year. First, I would stop worrying about making each card unique and come up with some designs that could be massed produced. Second, I would start early so that I wouldn’t be frantically making cards as fast as my husband mails them out. Apparently this year, I’m defining mid-October as early. Since I have several holiday stamps, stencils and dies, it’s time to pull them out and start putting them to use for this year.

I love this snowflake background stamp from Hero Arts so I decided to make it the star of the show. I stamped the image on white card stock and heat embossed it with white embossing powder to create a resist pattern. I blended Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass and Blueprint Sketch over the embossing to make the design pop. I used the Country Landscape die from Memory Box to create the village scene in the foreground and added a sentiment from the Comfort & Joy stamp set by Avery Elle. For the inside, I added a bold sentiment from the Wishing You Love stamp set by Neat & Tangled.

I made all the individual component parts first. I cut the card bases from Neenah 110# card stock and stamped the inside sentiment using my Misti.  I cut all the bases for embossing and all of the village scenes from Neenah 80# card stock. Using my Misti, I stamped the sentiment on all of the village die cuts and stamped and heat embossed all of the snowflake backgrounds. Finally, I ink blended all of the snowflake backgrounds.

In a couple of hours, I had all of the component parts ready for assembly. At the moment, I have ten cards assembled and will finish the final five cards later today.

Mass producing Christmas cards. 10 down – 5 to go!

While I love how these cards turned out, the design is still a little labor intensive. So hopefully my next design will have fewer moving parts!

September Art Du Jour Project Details

Yesterday was my last Art du Jour at Queen’s Ink for this year. I’m away next month and the store has a different format for this event in November and December. So I wanted to take time today share the details on yesterday’s cards.

For my first card, I used the Skeleton Lady stamp by Stampendous. Unfortunately, it’s a retired image, but it’s an oldy but goody that’s perfect for a Halloween card. The stamp includes the entire scene so you can pull the card top together with just a little stamping and coloring. Initially, I stamped the image with Memento but the result wasn’t as crisp as I wanted. For my second attempt, I stamped with Versafine. Since Versafine is not Copic safe, I quickly covered the wet ink with clear embossing powder and heat set it. This gave a glossy appearance that enhanced the overall appearance. I scribbled (literally!) some color on the image with my markers as a color wash. I used the Antique Frames die set from Penny Black to create the deckled appearance on the edges and paired it with a paper from Authentique.

For my second card, I used the simple, but lovely Grateful stamp set by Avery Elle. The sentiment was stamped with Versafine and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The acorns were stamped with Memento. Of course, even though there were only two acorns to color, I still managed to use six markers. The E markers were used for the acorn cap; the Y markers for the body.

Hope you enjoyed these projects. Thank you to everyone who joined me for Art du Jour this year. It’s been fun getting to know everyone and I’ve learned a lot from each and every one of you!

Although I won’t be participating in Art du Jour until January, I will still be offering monthly Copic classes at Queen’s Ink. Be sure to check my teaching schedule to stay informed on upcoming classes.
