GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! Today is check on the parents day so I’ll be out of here shortly to pick up their groceries and take them out to lunch. So I carved out some time this morning to put together a quick and easy card. And when it comes to quick and easy, I turn to Honey Bee Stamps!

I start by die cutting a piece of cardstock for my background layer with the Zig Zag Rectangle die from Lawn Fawn. I stamped the sentiment from the Small Gang stamp with Versafine ink and heat set it with clear embossing powder.The background was stenciled with Distress Inks and set aside to dry. I had a few bees left from Saturday’s card so I supplement them with some of the smaller bees from the Bee Hive stamp set. The bees color up quickly so I just adhered them with foam squares and added a few embellishments. Well, more than a few. Might have overdone the sequins, but I loved the combination.

GOOD MORNING FRIENDS! Nothing on my calendar today so today is a day to do whatever I want whenever I want to do it. So this will be a post and run as I decide on today’s adventure. We’ve been working on cleaning up the backyard and getting it ready for summertime fun, so I suspect that we’ll be exploring local nurseries today to start picking out flowers. Before I run off, I just wanted to add my entry for Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge #95 which is a challenge to create a project using the sketch shown here. I recently purchased two kitchen/cooking themed stamp sets from Newton’s Nook — Newton’s Kitchen and Made From Scratch — so I decided to feature them in my project.

I started my project by cutting a piece of 80# cardstock with the Scalloped Rectangle Stackable die from Lawn Fawn as the base for my background. Next, I used Versafine ink to stamp and heat embossed the images from the Made From Scratch stamp to create a background pattern. Following the sketch, I adhered a scrap of gingham paper across the background. I cut a second piece of 80# cardstock with a fishtail banner die from MFT Stamps and stamped and heat embossed the sentiment. The cat image was stamped on a piece of Spectrum Noir cardstock with GKD Amalgam Ink and colored with Copic markers. Once the layers were assembled, I added a few enamel dots to finish off my card.

AECP – Easy Ink Blending Techniques

GOOD EVENING FRIENDS! It’s been a beautiful day here in Maryland – temperatures in the 60s, a slight breeze, and lots of sunshine. The windows are wide open and the cats have been sunning themselves all day during their numerous naps. I stopped at a nursery earlier today and looked longingly at the spring flowers, but decided to hold off. I suspect that it’s still too soon to plant the flower boxes in front of the house, but the pansies were really tempting.

I’ve been working on organizing my craft supplies. When you live in a small house built before the invention of closets, organization is a serious challenge. I stopped at Dick Blick this afternoon and purchased a couple of Artbin containers for my Distress Inks, so for the moment they are suitably contained. But I put organization aside for awhile because I really wanted to get in some crafting time today. I’m a participant in the Altenew Educator Certification Program, but I’ve fallen behind for any number of reasons. So this afternoon, I turned off the phone, cleared off a spot on the dining room table, and got to work on a card to complete the Easy Ink Blending Techniques Class.

To create my card, I started with a panel of Neenah 80# cardstock and using my Misti, I stamped the floral image from the You Make Me Happy stamp set in a pale ink. I did this so that I would know where the embossed image would ultimately be placed. I also stamped the floral image a second time on masking paper and fussy cut the image. I placed the mask over the stamped image.

Using Purple Tape, I masked off the edges of the cardstock so that I could create an central focal point. Using the grid on my craft mat, I was able to make sure that the margins on each side were equal and the lines were straight.

Next I started ink blending the background, starting with the lighter colors first. In the bottom left corner, I blended Twisted Citron first and then added Tumbled Glass from the opposite corner. I deepened each corner with Mowed Lawn and Salty Ocean.

I removed all the masking for the initial reveal. I placed the panel back into my Misti and restamped the image with Versamark. I covered the ink with gold embossing powder and heat set the image. Then I stamped the sentiment from the Wish Big stamp set with Versafine in Onyx Black. I quickly covered the ink with clear embossing powder and heat set the sentiment.

Prior to assembling my card, I cut the panel with the a die from the Postal Stamp Rectangles set by Elizabeth Craft Designs. I glued a piece of craft foam to the back of the panel to dimension before adhering it to a panel of design paper and the card base. As a finishing touch, I scattered some sequins in a slightly studied and somewhat random manner. I’m still working on the random thing!

GOOD AFTERNOON FRIENDS! As you know, I slipped off to the Allentown Rubber Stamp & Paper Arts Festival on Friday. Had a great time there. Spent some time with Tracy Beck, owner of Photo Scraps, and saw a few of my students there (hey Kathy & Diane!). Came home with some new dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs and new stamps from Penny Black and Altenew. I splurged and bought a set of the 32 pan Altenew Watercolors so that I can give watercoloring another try. I’m spending today trying to get everything labeled, organized, and put away so that I can find the top of my desk and start coloring again.

I’m leaving you today with a card that I actually created last year for a class at The Queen’s Ink, but for some reason never posted after class. This is the card that got me started on making my own backgrounds and playing with mixed media. Still clean and simple, but includes stenciling with Distress Inks, stamping, heat embossing, Copic coloring, fussy cutting (this was in my pre-Scan N Cut days), and die cuts for the background layers.

Coloring With Copics: Faux Watercoloring with Copic Various Ink

The list below reflects the Copic markers that I will use in class. You can follow along using the same colors OR substitute colors based upon your personal Copic collection.

Please bring all your markers to class and make sure your Copics are marked with Washi tape or some other means of identification. Markers are available for purchase at The Queen’s Ink. Students will receive a 10% discount on Copic markers. I will be available prior to class to help with selection.

  • Bottle of Copic Various Ink Colorless Blender – at minimum, the 25cc bottle, but preferably the larger bottle. You may need to fill your water brush more than once during class.
  • Scissors suitable for fussy cutting
  • Foam adhesive squares
  • Tape runner adhesive or double sided tape

Please bring IF you have the following:

  • 12×12 glass media mat such as the one by Tonic Studios or We R Memory Keepers.
  • Copic Various Ink Refills in the colors listed above.
